Default Gas Stink

Well, I have gone and done it. I took the 1948 Crustoration Panhead on its first long and hard ride on Friday. Ran it hard on the highway for more than an hour, then another hour on back country roads to an AMCA meet here in Connecticut.

Then I turned around and did the same to get home. Bike ran strong (other than the left grip and spiral falling off on the highway). But when I got home the bike reaked of gasoline. Stunk up the garage so bad I had to push it outside for the night. That was 3 days ago and it still stinks of gas.

I believe the hard riding might have cracked or damaged something. I tightened up the mounting hardware for the fuel line at the gas tanks, but they seem to be weeping. Guess it's time to pull them for servicing.

Any other suggestions?

Don't use a match to look for the leak!

Seriously - no advice here, other than look for a leak. Sorry.

Default Leak

Hey Buzz,

S100 or Bike Bright to get rid of the smell. Sounds like leak is strong enough that it should not be too hard to find. Hope the petcock really works. Small leaks can be a pain. Evaporation hides everything but the smell. Place Kleenex around the fittings, carb, etc wait a few minutes and sniff

I'm sure the bike has the original..on/off setup on the top of the tank....right??
Check for a bad rubber grommit on the fitting going to the inside of the tank and also the rubber o-ring where it comes out at the bottom. I've had them both go on my ol' pan.
