sgtcowboyusmc: but weren't sporty's 900 cc's at that time?

We and H-D referred to them as 900's back then. I think the actual displacement was 883.

Exactly...........
I suggest getting the motor numbers dated 62' and be willing to go after market stuff for the parts that will be impossible to find. That way, you'll be riding it alot sooner than if you wait for 62' original pieces!

If a '62 Pan is what you want then that is what you should get. Check craigslist and start asking locals if they know where one might be located. When I started looking for vintage Harleys a lot of my friends said they were all gone. Well, I have found the following bikes since I started my search....1914 HD twin(told a HD expert about this bike, he bought it and helped me with my JD), 1926 JD(bought), 1931 V(bought),1958 Pan and a 1919 Indian Power Plus engine. These were all at the same farm. Last October I bought a 1920 L20T with two extra motors. In 1998 I heard about a 1935 VD. I found out where it was located but did not stop until 2005. If the guy decides to sell it, he said he would sell it to me. This week I am going to look at a truck load of Knuckle/Pan era goodies. I am hoping there is a good Knuckle motor, frame and tranny. If there is at least a motor I will be building a Knuckle bobber.I also know where there is a 1912? Indian single with belt drive that I need to stop and see if it is for sale. All of these machines were found within 30 miles of my house. Some people hunt wildlife, some people hunt a little white ball they hit around, I hunt vintage Harley's and the ever elusive 1969 SC/Rambler. Be diligent, have patience and enjoy the hunt.

Hey Guys
I may have found my 62. Someone about an hour from my town has a 1962 sportster for sale. Says it is a good bike to restore. It is kick only and the ad says it runs. I plan to drive out and take a look. Anything in particular I should be looking for or at. What is a reasonable price for one that is running. Maybe I should be asking for a reasonable price range since they probably run all over the board.

This could be it.
