Default mallory electronic ignition distributor

I am thinking about beefing up my distributor, and wanted to know if anybody currently has this type of distributor and if anybody has had any problems with this type of distributor? I have a 51 panhead, and am looking to make it as reliable as I can without to much modernisation.

Welcome aboard, comanche. I don't have much personal experience with the older HD distributers/ignitions..other than rebuilding the Magneto on the 65 XLCH owned several years ago or adjusting point gaps and timing on a few friends bikes in the old days. But, there was an article by Buzz in the Aug. '06 issue of AIM showing the "drop-in" installation of a QuickStart 2000 electronic ign. in a stock '65 Pan dist. of his.,to simply replace the orig. points/condensers with an electronic pick-up. And,there's several more recent threads/posts in the CAImag. forum (very cool site I often browse) where he and other members who've used it recommend it...costs around $150** works on 6 and 12 volt syst'ms.

Made in USA by EBeyond 2000 Inc. (EBeyond2000.net) in the northern part of MI's lower penninsula...might want to check them out before dropping $$$$ on a whole new Mallory distributor, etc !?!
