Question Ambient Air Temperature Guage

Hi Y'all .....

I have an '07 Street Glide and my complaint is that useless air temp gauge. My friends that have air temp gauges on their bikes are saying the same thing! USELESS!!! There are 4 of us and we can't figure out what temp the gauge is reading. Also .... all 4 of our gauges read different temps at the same time of day or night. Can anyone shed some light on the subject? It would be greatly appreciated?

I have an oil temp gauge in its place. It is much more useful than the air temp gauge.

They have ALWAYS been useless to me. I know it's cold; just like I know when it's hot. That oil temp gauge, now there's something useful, and a great upgrade for an '07.

The problem with air temp gages are they are in the sun light. I had a formation gage on my RoadKing and basically felt it was only good when I was moving - within 5 degrees but when I stopped - it went nuts. At night is was great. On the 07 it is inside the fairing - what good it that? None. I am going to have an oil temp gage installed when I take it for the 5,000 mile service. Will ad an oil cooler at some point.

Just curious... does it have a capillary tube? That is, a tube mounted low, like near the lower triple tree? Not that it's the same, but my '80 goldwing had a widchill gauge in the fairing, and this is how they read the temp. And yer right, it also went nuts sitting still.

I don't know where it is mounted - I know it is not right and an oil temp would be btter - so that is what I am going to do..........

Question Ambient Air Temperature Gauge

I like the idea of replacing the Air temp with Oil temp gauge on my 07 FLHTCU.
Wondering what the gauge and install would cost.

I had my gauge installed prior to delivery of the bike, so I am unsure of what the labor charge would be, as I had other things done to the bike as well. The gauge is part number 75265-04 and goes for $139.95. Its great to be able to monitor the oil temp on the fairing.

I was quoted 1 hr labor for the install of the oil temp gauge - that is why I will get it done at the 5,000 service - I will leave it for a couple of days.
