Default Oil Temp Gauge

I have dip stick oil temp gauge on my FLHX. I purchased it just before last summer. The other day I was carefully extracting its dead litium battery when one of the two electrical connections broke free from the circuit board. Any of you guys/gals think the dealer will take care of me regarding this problem? I had the part for about six months and this is the first battery change I needed to make. I'm already guessing the answer will be no. I'm just being hopeful as this thing cost $135. I was going to buy the fairing mount gauge for a few dollars more and replace that useless ambient air temp gauge. Anyone with a similar experience? The Motor Company should install a barometer in place of the ambient air temp gauge. At least then I'd know when it's going to rain. Be safe.

pspt122: Bummer. You replaced the battery and busted the connections. You are SOL my friend.

I wonder if you can solder it back or does it get to hot at that part of the gauge... Maybe worth a try

I don't know if they will help, but find an electronic shop...they can. I solder circuit boards together for tractors all the time. I havn't seen this one, so not sure, but I think it could be fixed. Good luck!

When it gets cold ride it in the house to work on. Thats what I do. Then in the summer I fix whatever part of the door frame that gets wrecked when I drive it in.

I have a split entry. I come in from the bottom. Fireplace and TV when I am wrenching. My wife has yet to complain.

Thanks for the laughs! We have a radio shop where I work. I'm going to let one of the technicians look at it. If they can't fix it then its trash. I have the heat situation under control with my bike anyway. I was getting a little psycho checking my oil temp all the time. I can pretty much guess acurately what the oil temp is now just from how hot or cool my legs are.

94flhtcu:
I didnt tell you all of it. This is why I am not a "Deluxe". Used to have a huge sliding door down stairs. You could ride through at 60 mph without worring about hitting the frame.

I changed that door to a swinging glass french style only one side opens. Got a huge deal on it cuz it was smaller then a normal size door.

I now have to remove my bags and it still takes about 5 minutes to wiggle the handle bars through. Last winter I got stuck on the bottem lip of the frame. Hit the throttle and the bottom piece eneded up about 200 yards out in the back yard. Its fixed now. But next time I should think about the size before get a "Good deal" . Going to have to cut the sleeper sofa apart if I ever decide to get rid of it. Aint no way its going through the door.

I got a visual (and a good laff) of the frame hurtling into space!

Years ago, I worked at an airport. I had ridden my ultra that day, and a severe storm came up, high wind and hail. My shop was inside the chain linked area. Now, I aint gonna let it set out there in the parking lot, but how can I get it in here?

One end of the shop had double doors. So, I get on it, ride it up on the side walk to this board ramp I had rigged, and one of my buds holds the door open so I can ride in. Problem is, the handlebars got stuck between the doors, and no matter what I did, I got closer to scratching the fairing.

Now, the board is moving, and we're all committed to the indoors. The front of the bike is about 6 or 7 inches above the rear due to the step. No one was outside except 1/2 of me, and I can't reach the board cuz I can't put my feet down. The stuck bars are holdin me up.

Right about then, the phone starts ringing...It's airport OPS, wanting to know why the door has been open for 8 minutes, and if they need to send the cops! YIKES! No, everything is fine! It was so wedged, two guys had to push from the forks to get it loose. I settled on pulling it as close to the building as possible. I just knew I was gonna get written up for it. I didn't though.

Those guys put up with a lot out of me and my ultra, and a few of them became HD riders BECAUSE of my ultra.

There's something Harley aint got there name on yet...a door frame! Take care...

Oh, sorry to hijack your thread, pspt122. It got a little long.
