Default Saddlebags detachable?

Saddlebags detachable? My 2005 Sportster 883C has Harley's rigid leather bags (53050-04A). My dealer says these can't be set up for detachable docking. The catalog disagrees. Anyone want to break the tie? Would be nice to take those clunky bags off when they're not needed.

My dealer wanted to sell me over a thousand dollars worth of stuff
so I could set up detachable leather bags and sissy bar on my 06 fxsti. I wound up using Ghost Brackets and lining some bags I bought from Leather Up with a couple of pieces of roadsign painted with bed liner coating. Had to buy the HD side plate and hardware kit. My only regret was using the HD turn signal relocation kit (looks like something made of lamp parts from the hardware store).
The whole setup was about $500.00 cheaper and looks and works great. The bags lock to the posts with a cylindrical key and the can be snapped together to a handle and carried loke a suitcase.
I've had several people comment on how nice the set up is. I load them up with whatever I need and there's no sag and have no additinal supports to clutter things up.
BTW my dealer said it wouldn't work.

Captain, you have the old style soul... Screw what "can't be done",
ya figure it out, get/make/modify what ya need and Make It work...
That's the old style way,, yeah baby...

BTW, 3534, perhaps you've solved this by now but, you can believe the catalogs most of the time, however, be absolutly sure YOU order the correct parts cuz not many of the catalog order folks read minds well...
