Default High Speed Wobble

Thread,
All big twins have the same problem when it comes to high speed wobble. It's because of the way the engine is mounted to the frame. When you've experienced, you'll never forget it. But there is a solution that takes care of the problem, period.
You should look into a "True Track", or one of the similar units on the market. It/they attach to the trans and locks onto the frame in front of the trans. By doing that it makes the front of the bike work with the swing arm since the rear motor mount is really the swing arm. You can also update the swing arm bearings with ones from "Sta Bo", or something similar.
I've done both on my RK and it worked wonders. Steady as a rock at any speed in any turn.

Default 05 RK Wobble

RKC with 11,000 miles. Recently noticed difference in steering / tracking when riding at 35-70 mph. Was really noticable when changing lanes, uneven surfaces, and when accelerating. Also noticed some "chirping" type noises from the back left side [drive belt side]. Dont know if noises are related to steering problem. Raised bike up on lift and grabbed tire and was able to move it back and forth horizontally about 1" or so. I "Googled" swingarm movement and wobble and walah, there it was. It is bothersome and will check with dealership to see if they have fix or will look at Ride-Str8 products or others. Any feedback on products appreciated.

Default high speed wobble

The high spped wobble is found in all year specific bikes that use the same frame as the ultra classic, 2005 to present I believe. The problem is that the swing arm is attatched to the transmission, which is part of the engine. The engine is rubber mounted allowing the transmission to stay in line with the rear tire but not the front tire. At higher speed cornering the bike starts to wobble and can become so violent that the rider will lose control. Harley Davidson has settled class action suits without admitting fault. You can find on line where the Honolulu and the L.A. Police Departments have stopped using HD for their police bikes because of the wobble they found diring their testing. The dealers I have talked to say that they cannot duplicate the problem because their insurance does not allow them to ride at the necessary speed. Harley Davidson is coverring up a problem that is injuring and even killing people. If this was Firestone, Goodyear, Ford or any other major consumer product manufacturer, a recall would have already happened. Check out the link, it shows one class action suit against Harley Davidson. http://www.goingfaster.com/angst/lawsuit1.htm

Default Re: High Speed Wobble On A Road King !!!

I had the same problem on a Street Glide and it was doing it to me on a staight away. At over 120MPH my bike was taking up over 1/2 of the lane and didn't stop no matter what I did until I was down to 70MPH. Had I been on a big sweeper, I probably wouldn't be here today!
I have an extra True-track which is the original inventer many years ago. They have updated their system many times over the years. I just listed my extra one for only $285.00 with free USA shipping. I have not had a problem since using teu tracks on my bikes.
