Default Original Sturgis Harley

The first time I saw a Sturgis Harley I had no idea what to think of it - very cool looking and dual belt drives! I am not sure how many Harley made of the Sturgis Shovelheads but I curious how popular they were.

I am guessing they were more popular as a styling excercise as the dual belt idea never seemed to catch on.

I always thought they were a killer looking bike! The black with the orange stripe on the wheels was really an eye catcher for me. The local Harley Dealer has one, except for the pipes it is completely stock, I've tried for years to get it from him but he just won't let it go!
Why did the double belt never catch on? I think I heard it said that the primary belt got too hot and came apart, is that so?

Yes, very cool looking color combination. I never hear the belt came apart. But have to wonder why the dual belt set up didn't last.

The heat did ruin the belts prematurely.
My closest bro had a 83' fxsb... twin belt low rider. Kept snapping belts pretty often.
The Stugis bikes were an awesome custom machine.
