Default AMF - How time changes things

I ran across Buzz's post wherein he has a shovel/cone for sale. It looks damn cool - now!
Back in the day (70's) if one was running this bike you would have heard a lot of $hit about it "not being a real Harley". The jokes about AMF were many and often - bowling balls for one. I know what I'm talking about as not only did I own a 1973, it was also a Sportster!!!!

Now they are revered as are an old pan or knuckle - ya know like "real" Harley's, LOL! Why is that? What happened from then till now? Passage of time? A new generation of bikers? Reluctance to accept the Evo/Twin Cam? And it is now considered a "classic' no less!

Just curious!

Adios Mother Fockers

A Harley is a Harley and valued over time, even the small displacement Italian ones. AMF has become less of an issue as most of them still on the road have been sorted out.

True for the V-Rod as well?

What do you mean by sorted out?

Some of the AMF bikes had mechanical issues - some due to design, and some due to frustrated factory empolyees. If they are still running and on on the road, odds are they were either good ones to begin with or the problem issues have been resolved by now.

........................or they have been rebuilt a time or two.......or 3!!!

My post was not meant to address any mechanical issues of those years, mine was trouble free, I was referring to the way the AMF's were perceived by the Harley loyal back then VS now.

Remember when the evo's came out and the...... "bikers"... came up with the phrase....... "See no evo... Hear no evo..... RIDE NO EVO.....
Then the twin cam cam out..... Twinky..... Then the v-rod..... Honda-Davidson.... It never ends. Now, AMF is acceptable, Evo's are Harley's last real motor.. Twinkies aren't water cooled........... But, We all still love our beloved motorcycle know matter what year, make, or model!!!!!
Devoted to the core...........
I love this stuff...................
