Default Hi to all

This is Rich from wet and soggy England ,this is my 1st post on this forum ..have been round Brit iron for many years .but am still learning about H/Ds..My question is - during the off season I have removed the 1969 1340 shovelhead engine from the frame ..and finaly got rid of the dead black powdercoat that seemed to cover everything .I have a good engine every thing seems to be on top limit .but I have replaced the rings.guides and valves .I have some Andrews ''blue ''springs for shovelhead, but these seem shorter in the overall length than the ones I am replacing ..It has an H. cam fitted ..I have asked Andrews if these springs will work ok and they have said yes ..How does that seem to you guys....?? Thanks Rich...

Couldn't say about the Andrews springs, but welcome to the forum and good luck with the Shovelhead.

Welcome to the forum, Underpass. If that is indeed a '69 engine it originated as a 1200 as opposed to 1340. If it has been modified into a 1340 then I stand corrected. To answer your query regarding the valve springs, I would suppose Andrews would be the reliable authority on them. Hopefully you have some written material with them regarding installed height and pressure. Shops that do a lot of head work have the tools to verify that the springs meet the specifications needed with that cam.
Ride safe and God bless, Sincerely: Shovelmike.

Hey Rich, Welcome to the post, those springs will indeed work with your shovel, the H grind cam is a stock cam for a. 74 inch motor you should also make sure the new valves fit properly in your guides they need to be machined to the correct tolerance 5 thousanths of an inch. Good luck. Shovels rule!!!

Thanks to all .. Yes I would say that the m/c is a bit of a mixture .. but nicely put together .. I would think that it did start out as a1200 but is 80in now ..with STD cases..and rotary top gear box ..Kick start ..and no indicators ..wide front end with dual brakes ..belt primary and chain final drive ..solid lifters ..and is black ..
