Default Illegitimate Child - Sportster

Went to my local HD Dealer Robinsons Foundry in Canterbury (uk), The machine which achieved the highest sales last month was the Sportster, only 7 machines but that outstripped other HD exotica...!!

So why is the Sportster looked down upon? When I purchased my machine HOG membership was automatic, I also had joined Harley Davidson Riders Club Of Great Britain (HDRCGB).

But they dont really have that much interest in Sportsters...

But why is there little interest in what is possibly the machine that is the mainstay of HD business.

I am ignored by other Harley Riders, I'm not a geek, I attend rallies all over the country all I get is 'when are you gonna get a proper Harley'? Well f-ck you it is a proper Harley, I has presence and poise... So whats the problem...!!! why is the image wrong for bike and rider?

Especially when we all have one thing in common, the ride, the rallies, the partying, the beer, the women and most of all the freedom How can one model of bike separate the
rider(s) form the Tourers /Crusiers/Dynas....et al.. Brigger

Nothing wrong with a Sportster, it's all about the ride and not what you ride. You only have to make 1 person happy and that is yourself. F__k everyone else.

I have a great time riding the wife's 1200L. I don't worry about what the other riders think, I just enjoy the nimble handling and the great throttle response. I've never had anybody ask me when I was going to get a "real" Harley, though. I can see how that would piss you off in a hurry. Sorry you had trouble.

Angry Snobs!!!!

I guess it's like why some Cadillac owners look down on Chevy owners. Snobs?
I use my Ultra for two up riding and long trips, but when I what a great, fun, ride it's the Sportster. If my wife didn't like to ride with me it would be only a Sportster for me.
Probably most of them have never been on a Sportster, and have no idea of what a great bike it is.

Default Nothing wrong with a Sportster

I looked hard at an 07 1200C but ended up gettin a Wide Glide. Really the only thing I didn't like about the Sportster was the clutch pull seemed harder to me. It probably wouldn't have mattered but that was really all I could come up with. I think the Dyna and Sportsters are like first cousins.

I have never actually ridden a Sportster but I have ridden on a couple and it was a blast. In the 60's I had a friend who had a 59 and later a I think a 66 XLCH that was a monster. I guess it really wasn't a two up machine but we rode it all over.

I guess some people are hung up on the size thing. That seems to be the mentality in the states where they sell cars based on the horsepower. Unfortunately there are people who think you are supposed to drive them like they do in the commercials.

I have had a couple of touring or softail riders kind of roll their eyes at my Dyna so I suppose it is similar to what you are getting. I think it is human nature to think that whatever we ride is the best choice and the point is, we do have a choice. Everyone chooses for whatever reason makes sense to them.

If I had the money, there would be a 1200C sitting in my garage beside the Wide Glide. My guess is, the Sportster would probably see more riding time.

Ride hard and safe and don't back down if someone snubs your ride. Show pride in your ride without knocking what they ride.

I put more miles a year on my Sportster then I do My Jeep. I have two small kids so I dont get out as much as I like. The only person that ever gave me crap about the bike is a good friend of mine. He dont have a bike.

I do get thumbs up by riders who like what I did. I ride solo and have been on a few rides.
I hang out at places other rider frequent also. No bad comments. Who gives a F--- what others think. I left that crap 20+ years ago in High School.

Sportsters are icons in pop culture, no less than '65 Mustangs. Whoever can't dig it ... their loss.

real "riders" know the history of the sportster! The FIRST harley racing bike. If some would be more open and try a ride on a sporty they would be sold! Each series of bike has it place and there is nothing like throtling though a winding canyon road on a sportster! I love mine, and although I catch sh*t from my buddies, they respect me, my bike, and what it's cappable of. If you like, then thats all that matters!

I sort of like that some people put down the Sportster, it exposes them and their lack of knowledge. Sportster, the best all around bike ever made! IMO.
