I don't think you have to say anything, it's obvious to most of us where a Sportster is in the family tree. Think it will be more obvious when the new XR comes out. It will be the closest H.D. has come to going head to head with Moto Guzzi, Ducati and BMW . In the 74 cubic inches department, the XR should make us proud.

A 74 Iron Head with the right side shift . In about a year from now or so anyway . I had it for a couple of years and have had to rebuild it . When the knocking was drowning out the thunder of the drag pipes I knew it was time to start the tear down . As I am a cook and not a mechanic it is taking a while . I suscribed to AIM mainly because it is a great mag but also because it is the only one I have found with a "Sportster's Corner" It has some good articles with helpfull advice . Thanks Buzz and keep the hints coming .

Hey there 74 hdironhead. It's good to see that you are doing your own work on your Sportster. Just make sure you have a good manual and,as you stated, just take your time. If you can follow a recipe you can follow the instructions in the manual. Pay attention to detail, make notes about what goes where, draw yourself pictures etc. Especially keep track of which hole which bolt came out of by using the gasket to draw the shape on cardboard, punch holes and put the bolts in the position where they belong.
NOTE TO RogerMason: It is really awesome that your daughter bought you a Sportster. It really touches your heart when they do things like that for you with their own hard earned money!

Ride safe guys. God bless
Sincerely: Shovelmike.

Thanks for the advice Mike . I wish I had it about a year ago . I was planning on replacing most of the bolts anyway due to rust issues . I do have the manuals though and nothing scares me except for the parts that have got to be within a couple thousands of an inch . That is more precise than I am used to . I will probably call in some buddies when that time arrives figuring that 3-4 heads are better than one .

Welcome to the forum, Sealizard. You certainly have had and presently have some fine motorcycles. And the wife rides too, very good!

Default 883R to Dyna

I started motorcycling with a 2002 883R that I rode all over Italy and India. I auctioned it to a large crowd outside of the house in India for more money than I paid for it which I then had to smuggle out of the country before I could change it to USD. Then I bought a new FXDCi35 in Muscat which is my present bike. I was think about a new 2008 CVO Dyna...mmm

John 1:14

It is the duty of nations, as well as of men, to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God, to confess their sins and transgressions, in humble sorrow, yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy and pardon; and to recognize the sublime truth announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history, that those nations only are blessed whose God is the LORD.
