Here is my 06 1200R in my driveway, thunderheader, 30t , progressive 412's, blacked out wheels, sprocket, bars, mirrors, bob tail rear, speedscreen, full floating discs. I'm getting another Sportster when the XR comes out in a few months. But I like the X-wedge too.
Used to ride British bikes 30 years ago but life/kids etc. conspired to send me in other directions. Last February my dear wife conspired with the folks at Rocket HD in Huntsville, AL and I came home from work to find a 2002 XLC 1200 sitting in the driveway.

I started out on British Iron too, 63 TR6. Sounds like you must be doing something right to have a Sportster waiting for you in your driveway. Glad you're riding again.
I put 883 Rubbermount.. although it's a 1200 now did the Big Bore Conversion myself with SE Air Cleaner and V&H Pipes .. Carb Rejet to #45 & #180. But giving what it is was when bought originally...
Wow! Those rubber mount 1200's are well represented. That's really cool that your wife did that for you, Whopper. I have a late'85 Ironhead XLX. Midsummer 85 they brought out the 86 EVO Sporty. My bike has the Alternator and closer fit cam gears that make it different than early '85's. It is still a piece of sculpture in iron that is almost as fun to sit and look at when the snow's blowing as it is to ride. I said almost; Just a barrel of giggles on a twisty country road.

That 1985 $3995 XLX is one of my favorite Sportsters, a real classic IMO. All the ones I see for sale now are at least $5000 if they haven't been altered to much. Great example of a Sportster.
I had a '92 1200 for 4 years. It was a fun bike, and my wife learned to ride on it. I had a great time riding it, especially in the turns. It was no touring bike, though, and when my wife and I rode distance, the Sporty would start to torture her because of the vibration. Last year we got the '07 XL1200L. I could not believe the difference that the rubber mounts make. It still has the great handling, the great torque, but better brakes, and a 140 rear tire. The EFI is pretty sweet, and they somehow retained the lumpy idle that has been lost on the EFI Big Twins. Harley did a wonderful thing when they designed the new frame.
