Default "sportster Corner"

I just read "sportster corner" in the new AIM and think Dan Umstead is way to biased against the new, 04 and later, Sportsters. He will not recommend one because they don't have a trap door so you can take out your transmission and look at it easier than the new ones where we have to split the cases to service the transmission. There are many, not just jap bikes, that use this design. The benefits of the new rubber mount Sportsters far out weighs the fact that there is no longer a trap door, I think. Trans seems fine, but I guess time will tell.

We don't have enough miles on the '07 1200XL to comment on the trap door situation, but it makes sense to have a problem with the design since it forces us to split the cases.

I do agree, wholeheartedly, about the new rubber mounts, and their superiority over the old rigid mounts in terms of comfort and less vibration. Night and day difference between the two...

The jury is still out on no trap door. however the overall design does make a stronger case one thing the EFIs out of the box are the best sportys yet. I have been riding sportys fo almost 40 years so and have owened every type and I just love my 50XL and love my 03 1200C. Night and day between the two but that is the experiance.

Well guess will have to see when I need to work on the transmission. I am sure I will be able to put 1,000,000 miles on it before I need to bust her open

Dan should visit the XL Forum once and a while and see the miles some of us guys have put on the rubbermounts. Most owners think the lack of a trap door is not really an issue. You'd also be hard pressed to find other brands with trapdoors on the tranny.
