Default new sportster trans

anyone note that the new xl hase no trap door behind the clutch to remove the trans now you have to strep the hole moter to work on the trans! just like the old k models thats the mane reason i got sb and not a sportster

They actually did away with the trap door in 2004.Sportsters have always had bullet proof trannys anyways.The cases are stronger without that trap door.

yeh thats right i just think thats a very dumb idea on hd,s part what happens if you blow a shift and chip a tooth off a gear? you then have to take the motor out and do a complet taredown just to replace a gear just sounds like a dumb idea to me

I can honestly say that I've never had to replace a gear on a five speed Sporty,they are overbuilt to begin with & the trap door was probably the weakest link in the drivetrain.
