So knowing how popular the bagger movement has become with Harley owners and riders I am curious how many Sportster owners have converted their Harleys into baggers or do you prefer the Sporty part of a Sportster?
We at American Iron Magazine happen to like Sportster Harleys a lot and appreciate them set up in a sporty manner, chopper (at least Chris Maida does) and as smaller Harley bagger conversions.
So should we feature more Sportster Harley bagger motorcycles in the magazine?

Would love to see more sporty baggers On one of the sportster websites there is a sporty that the owner put RK hardbags, streetglide tank and a fairing off a touring model on. He even made his own pipes and the bike is running duals The bike looks so cool parked next to his Ultra Classic. Looked like a lot of work but worth it!
I don't see why not Buzz.
Most of Us were around when the Electra Glide had a 74"/1200cc motor. I think it would be prudent to put on a larger gas tank, but other than that Hard Bags and either a Road King style windshield or a faring and it should be fine. And yes if it is done right I like looking at these kind of projects in AIM.
With the Economy as sour as it is, I would like to see more how to articles, and for lack of a better term, more poor boy bikes. Articles on ways to fix things on the cheap, but fixed right. You get the idea.
Thanks
Cowboy

As the economy continues to tighten we are planning on more "poor boy" bikes in the magazine, and that includes new Harley Sportsters, baggers and Dynas as well as used and even old Harleys too.
Always looking for good subjects and ideas (as well as authors) for more "budget Harley" tech and how to articles.

I think it would be cool to add it to the mag. I rode only a Sporty until I got an Electra Glide but used the Sporty for touring. My 1200C had Vance and Hines Pipes, carb kit, quick detach wind shield, throwover saddlebags and a sissy bar mounted bag. I did a fair amount of traveling on it, really quite comfortably. More folks have less disposable income now so a Sporty or Dyna Super Glide are within reach for many, baggers are not. It would be neat to see what could be done, or has been done by some folks out there.
Absolutely. On another thread we discussed how used Harley pricing is falling rapidly and for someone looking to start out riding HD, this is a great time to do it. A nice low mileage Sporty can be picked up for 3,500 to 4,000 and off ya go. Chop it, bag it, or bobber it to taste, for not much dinero, and presto, you're in the club!
An article focusing on how inexpensively you could purchase and customize a Sporty might be encouraging to potential riders and, dare I say, magazine subscribers......
