Hey guys, figured I'd share some good news. I got a great deal on a brand new '09 Sportster 883 Custom while at the dealer for my MSF class last night. It's such a beautiful bike in pewter pearl. I was seriously considering the Iron, but this one just had classic Harley-Davidson beauty, so it was an easy choice. I passed the written MSF test last night and hopefully I'll pass the on-cycle test tomorrow. Then I have to run over, pay for the bike, and they're going to follow me home with it in a truck. I don't know how much riding I'm going to do before I go back to school next Friday, but I'll take it up and down the street, and maybe over to a nearby school parking lot to practice some maneuvers. When the insurance agent asked what kind of bike it was, she goes, oh, we barely charge harley riders for insurance, it would be 5 times more if it was a crotch rocket. But anyway, now I'll have a reason to be hanging around the forums instead of just working for American Iron Magazine for the summer.
congrats on the new ride and have fun with you new harley sportster. sounds like a great summer you are having. sure wish i could have done stuff like working at my favorite harley magazine during summer break.

Congrats!! As Crossbones Rick just said, get yourself comfortable before you just jump out into the wild. Probably wouldn't hurt to see if someone from the staff or a rider friend went out with you the first couple times just to ease your nerves. Now about customizing.....
Congrats, I just picked up a Sportster 1200 custom. Nice bikes, a bit of a rough ride and insurance is kind of high, I thought. I use Geico, have a clean driving record and the price was 1200 for the year. I'm only paying 480 for a Kawasaki Vulcan, I have full coverage because there is a lien on the Harley but I though $1200 was a little high.
Good luck with the bike.
A new Harley and a job with AIM, Tyler, you are one lucky guy.
You need to post some photos, and start an album.
And yea take it easy on the steed, when you get on always remember, when you are cool you dont need to show off.
Let those crotch rockets make fools of themselves.
Yea, no issues with taking it easy here, I've already put on 20 miles going up and down my little cul-de-sac road. I got a good insurance rate, it's $200 for the year. I got some quick photos, although Bob Feather informed me that I made many rookie mistakes and should have paid more attention to his how-to article. Thanks for all the new rider tips guys, one of my friends who rides is going to take me out sometime this week. Here are the pics.
