I love the look of the XLCR cafe racer but heard they were bad sellers when new.

What's the deal with that? I've been looking for Harley magazines with articles on them when new but not much luck.

How come we don't see many (any?) XLCRs in any Harley magazine any more?

The XLCR is one of my favorites as well, JayDee. I suppose sales were not real brisk because they were a little unconventional looking for the traditional minded Harley crowd, yet not fast enough to fit in with 4 cyl. rice rocket sport bikes. A Sporty with a good rider aboard can still show a ricer the way through the twisties. Because of the broad torque curve they can fly through the curves without shifting while the ricer is looking for the right gear to stay on the pipe.
The dealer in this area started his shop in 77. He said he had a lot of people wanting those bikes but H-D thought he was just a newby who didn't know what he was doing and wouldn't ship him many.
XR 1000 was a great one too but so few were made that replacement parts are just not available.

I too was wondering about the XLCR. I have the opportunity to buy a '77 for under 2 G's but it's pretty rough. I know it isn't running and I'm not sure what it would take to get it running. I want the bike as a daily driver but I'm not sure if the XLCR is meant for that, my father-in-law told me that they were a shovelhead motor and required alot of maintenance. Is it worth a look or not? Thanks

They are cool bikes that are more popular now than when new. It is an Ironhead NOT a Shovelhead. They do take some work to get them right but then they run good.
$2 grand doesn't sound like a lot if it is complete and the engine turns over.
Got any pix to share here?

They've got one sittin' on the floor at the indy shop right off base. Minus a very minor paint chip on the horn cover, it's in fantastic shape.

John 1:14

It is the duty of nations, as well as of men, to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God, to confess their sins and transgressions, in humble sorrow, yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy and pardon; and to recognize the sublime truth announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history, that those nations only are blessed whose God is the LORD.
