They don't make this electrical troubleshooting easy do they?
The breakout box is a good idea, would save a lot of trouble. I guess i will start with the logical circuit involved with the problem and go from there.
I do not have any electrical issue at this time but need to prepare for the eventual circuit problems that may come up. Just hope nothing really weird comes up. I can not justify a lot of the speciality tools just for what "might" happen.
I wll be getting a good multimeter soon so i can do basic troubleshooting.
The HD Electrical Diagnostics Manual at least points you in the right direction anyway.
It is nice to talk to others sharing the same concerns as i have. This is a great site for Harley riders.

Auto mechanics buy a lot from Snap-on or Matco Tools.
Maybe HD mechanics buy from them as well.

I like snap-on tools but cant afford to many. They also don't carry the specialty tools.

Motorman. If you are still needing a breakout box, I found one in my OLD (04) V-Twin catalog. The bad news is that the price is $440, probably higher today.

This is the reason I buy nothing from HD unless I have to.
If they wont sell me the specialty tools to work on my HD, then I don’t need their t-shirts.
Georges garage sell a lot of the tools so does Jims. Most can be found on E-bay.

Thanks for the tip Shovelmike, back then $440 was a lot of money and as you stated probably will be a lot more today. I think i will try to get along without the breakout box at least for now. If i run into something that i can not troubleshoot i will think about it again.
However, thanks again for the info. I have not seen them advertised lately or for that matter in any HD catalog. This appears to be another item HD wants to keep to themselves.

Default SPX tools

Have you tried ordering it from SPX Harley-Davidson | Detail

The breakout box is $200 for the TSSM and $318 for the ECM. A lot still, but I need to figure out which sensor is bad.

My dealer has preformed a compression and leak down test and say nothing is wrong with my wifes bike, but we both can feel the loss of power. They put it on the dyno and said it needs to be retuned since it's running too rich. I'm not paying for a retune when there's an additional problem.

They say that the EFI MAP can reprogram itself if the values get out of range, but no one knows exactly what that means. I'm not disbelieving this because I trust the tuner after all the work he's done on our bikes, but I have never heard of this, I can't confirm it in the manual and just think he might be wrong this time. I went home and reloaded the last tune he did using my SERT and the bike runs just as bad. It's been a moderately fast downturn in performance over the last month or two. I personally believe I have a sensor that is going out, but is not completely out of the tolerances allowed by the ECM since it's not throwing any trouble codes.

05' Deluxe with V&H, 95", and ported heads - wife's bike that's having problems.
03' Heritage with SE 2-to-1s, 95", and SE heads - my bike - running great after 57,000 miles

Default Kent-moore and MAC tools

I worked at a Yamaha dealership for several long years before semi-retirement. I got most of my specialty tools from Kent-Moore catalog(mail order) and the Mac tools truck. Mac has a special section just for us. They are a bit pricey but my tool man does not give any problems with the warranties-even when I mis-use them (read destroy from improper use).

Hey Pvan

I hope Wrightturn checks in cuz he's more familiar with EFI and the possible Sensor probs..

But in the meantime I'll say this..
If this was a older carbed sickle one of the first things a guy would do is check for intake leaks for this worsening prob..
And also to Double Check the Too Rich claim..

I use Carb Cleaner to spray gently around the manifold TO head and the intake TO manifold connections.. There are other things to spray also..
Don't let it get into the Air Cleaner cuz it'll give you a false reading..
You listen for a change, usually a drop, in RPM's.. If there is a definate drop or raise in R's you prob have an intake leak..
If there is an Intake air leak the 02 sensor will be trying to compensate by fattening up the A/F mix even though the intake sensor is Not reading that extra air..

To double check the Too Rich claim simply run at the spd you have the most visible loss of perfomance for about 15 miles, try to Not flucuate the spd or RPM's.. When ready, dis-engage clutch and switch off ignition at the SAME time.. Coast only to the side of the road and pull the plugs..
If the motor is running Too Rich, to the point of the power loss you describe, the plugs will be a very Dark brown to Black and maybe even oily and/or sooty..
