Default Air Compressor???

i was wondering if anyone has an air compressor in their garage? If so, what type? How big? I was thinking it might come in handy - and would give me another excuse to go to Home Depot - to look at tools......

Hi Texan

I've got an Ingersol-Rand oil less,direct-drive (no belt) out in my "play-house" that I must've had (second one) for at least 10 years now. I don't know what demands you have in mind for yours..but I'd recommend going with no less than a 20 tank size..and,the H.P. motor that size compressor comes with should be adequate for most needs. Just last year I did my aging-a** a favor and bought a full table lift (Direct-Lift) and, altough I've got to make sure that my 20 gal. (wish I had 30 now) is at peak p.s.i. before I lift the bike..it does get the job done.

Fair warning,though..purchase of compressor may lead to serious side effects like (not limited to) an addiction to all kinds of air-tools/equip'mt..to play with

Default air comp

Have 2

Small 2hp on a 20 gallon tank. Old Campbell Hausfield has been trouble free and handles impact wrench and most air tools although you may have to wait for it to catch up to do the 5th lug nut. Does not have the cfm to run sanding tools. Converted to 220 and has been trouble free. On 110 circuit breakers would pop.

Devilbiss 6hp on a 60 gallon tank takes care of everything else. Runs the DA sander and air file. Use HVLP for most paint work but can use either for small jobs.

Match the cfm and pressure requirements for the tools you want to use when deciding what size. Makes life easier

Hi Wrightturn

Good point on that 220/110 thing..as well as the rest,of course. I mean I've never had a major issue with cfm out there,but...noting that I don't do a LOT of painting-etc...it HAS been "border-line" at times. Yeah, and, the dumb-part (mine) is that about 2 years ago, I had to dig-up and replace the underground (and some concrete) power line to my "play-house",anyhow...and, DID'NT-THINK to run 220 at the time...duh!!!

Oh,well...

Thanks for the advice - basically I want it to add air to the tires. I got the Putbull lift - which BTW is great - but I need something I use to inflate the tires. I was looking at that small Cambell Hausfiled - might just do the trick for me...........tools I can relate - I have thing about cleaning stuff - I must have 30 different kinds of sprays - cans etc sitting around - my wife and I go someplace - I buy another 2 or 3 - she asks what am I dong - I just tell her I need to find something that will clean .......(you fill in the blanK) it just never ends.

Mine is a Craftsman 5 hp. 220 volt 60 gallon tank. I went from 1 1/2 horse that I worked to death running the air sander and other air tools to this monster. It's been worth it though, I've had it 16 or 17 years now and it works great.

I saw the Pit-Bull-Lift that you provided the website before..and it's lookng GOOD man. The thing is, my "play-house" (converted 1-1/2 car garage) is pretty tight quarters..especially with wall-shelving on one side and tool chests and benches, etc., on the other. Which leaves relatively little floor space. Yeah, and, as odd as this may sound, the lift (incld'g scissor jack) I got works out better in MY case than the floor lift (not junk) I'd been using. Because,now..with shelving on either side to put parts on the side(s) they came off/go on..the lift table makes for a great place to set tools in use..and there's just enough floor space left in that part of the place (rear) for me to scoot all around it,on this great castered wooden stool an old friend's father
made for me..and,still have enough room up-front of the place to park a couple bikes..and,close the door, too !!!

well it seems(as informed by my wife) that my "Harley area" was expanding ... and that I had better watch it or we might have to move to a place with a 3 car garage - now if we do that - I could get one of those platform lifts but until then --------I am going to have to spend some time reducing my "area" of I am going to end up like someone else on this forum... I am not going to mention any names but his initials might be oops no better not.

Craftsman and PorterCable here. Both oil free, which is the only way to go. One less thing to worry about. Stick with a brand name, not something you find at Big Lots.

Craftsman, 33gal. holding tank. Vertical mount, takes up way less room. 6 H.P. with 90lbs. operating pressure. The bigger the volume tank the happier you will be IMO. Can run just about anything you would need too.
