I've been using heavy duty paper towel folded lengthwise and tucked under the filter to absorb the mess as it spills out. It soaks up most of it but is not perfect. Think I'll try this method, it looks cleaner. As for the latex gloves, my wife bought a box for the shop. I think she was telling me something about washing up in the laundry room.
Guess I must be part RUB though JC cause on any big job at least one finger ends up exposed when a glove rips on something sharp.

Man, I just had the worst time changing oil I have ever had. had all my usual stuff that keeps things nice, neat, and clean and stuff started falls, leaking, hitting the ground. Even filling the oil bag got messy. ARGH!

It happens from time to time Majic. I remember a little over a year ago I was changing oil in my cage. I forgot to put the plug back in the pan before I started dumping fresh oil in. Jeez. It was a windy day also.

JC - Glad to know it's not just me, 'cuz lately things seem to be feeling like it's just me. Ugh.

I did a change just before putting her away and OMFG what a mess! My oil was spider-webbing when I pulled the bottles out of the filler. I have dirty oil stains on my garage's concrete floor from when whacked my head on the bars when my trick knee threatened to take a trip and I had to jerk myself upright quickly to keep the kneepcap inthe socket - The bike wanted to go over (yeah, I hit my head that hard) so somehow I found places to grab (with majorly cruddy hands) the bike. I kept it from going over, but in the process I stepped on the dirty oil pan so I had that all overt everything, plus a screwdriver I had setting nearby fell into what was left of the dirty oil. Just was NOT my day to change the oil.

Something tells me to remove everything in my garage when I fix the busted tracks and springs. LOL

If you can get some pig pads , (I use them at work),put under filter to catch any drips.
