Default Battery Chargers

Owning more then one bike and more then one car, I love smart charger battery chargers. Keesp the cells charged and ready when I am. Sure hate battery jumper boxes and cables!

I've had good luck with Deltron's BatteryTenders.

I like the OptiMate III a little better than the Deltran Battery Tender.
Not only is it a smart charger, but it can "rescue" deeply discharged, sulfated batteries. This feature has impressed me with old trashed batteries. It will even tell you if the battery is good or bad when it is done with it's rescue program.

Love my Battery Tender. Never ever had a problem with a battery since since I got one a few years ago. I keep the pigtail tucked under the seat and as soon as the bike's parked the charger goes on. With a newborn in the house and the crazy weather I never know when the next time I'm going to get to ride and she's always charged up. Cranks right over after winter storage, too.

I have owned two Battery Tenders. The first failed within a year and was replaced under warranty. It lasted only one year too. I bought another one a couple of years ago and it only lasted a little over a year. They won't get any more of my money.
My current charger is the $25.00 unit for Sears. So far, so good.

I have the HD Supersmart. My regular dealer tech (personal friend) suggested making a habit of plugging her in every ride. Since following that advice with the Softail I have had no battery related issues. Battery Tender is a good idea.

Battery Tender's are the best. Sorry you went thru three of 'em, and I can understand not getting another. I have had my first one for years, and the second in '03... not a problem with either. Actually, had to solder a new terminal on the old one, and it still works. I also use the pigtail on the bike to power a small trouble lite, and soon an on board compressor.

So what's the difference and how can the OptiMate III beat a sulfated battery?

I thought once the cells were sulfated they were toast.

It's only toast when enough sulpher piles up on the bottom and makes an electrical connection between two cells.

I've had my Battery Tender for almost 5 years. It's been dropped, frozen, and generally abused (not on purpose) and still going strong!
