Change from 1/1/2 rear pulley to 1/1/8

I have a 90 FXR and would like to change out the 1 1/2 rear pulley for a 1 1/8 to allow for a little wider tire. Can I use a 2000 and up harley pulley with a 3/8 inch spacer(or some size) or is there a lot more to this that meets the eye. What size tire do you think will fit,

I know with metzeler you can upgrade to a 140/90 without changing anything. How wide are you looking to go? The FXR is a great handling bike so i wouldn't think you would want to go to wide!
