Default Gear Ratio for 4 speed tranny

I am hoping Frisco-Rigid is still around. Him and I rapped about a year ago about gear ratios for a belt primary drive for my 55 Pan. I am currently running a 3" belt with a 47 front, 76 rear. I am debating going to a 1 1/2" belt and have three options. 39/62, 40/62 or 41/61. Fisco recommended one of those, but I cannot find which one it was.

Any recommendations? I am running a stock 55 Pan I rebuild from the flywheels up, a 4 spd tranny with a 24 tooth tranny sprocket and I want to say a 51 tooth rear sprocket. It is the stock drum brake/sprocket setup. The bike runs great but I would like to get higher hwy speeds out of it.

Thanks!

Hey Wide

I'm barely still here, how ya doing..

Currently your over-all ratio is 3.42 with a 47-76 primary drive and a 24 tranny and a 51 wheel sprocket..
Old stock but pretty low..

Here are your possibilties--- your current REAR ratio is 2.125..
With a 41-61 your over-all will be 3.16,, waaaay tooo high for your motor..
41-62 it'll be 3.21 also too high..

40-61 it'll be 3.24 also too high..

40-62 it'll be 3.29,,too high..

39-61 it'll be 3.32 very decent.. I think you'll like this one..

39-62 it'll be 3.37 very decent.. Very good too..

I suggest 8mm cuz 11mm doesn't come in those combos at all..
I run 8mm 1.5" on both the 120" and the 93" shovel..
Small number moves make fairly large diff, you'll see.. I have all those pulleys but the 41.. I can change ratios in about 15 minutes..

Your '55 should be a splined motor shaft.. In Jireh Cycles that would be No. 58-232,, $205.00 free delivery.. But they don't say what Pulleys are in that set..
You would want to call and ask which set will have the pulley combo you want..
If you are dead-set on a combo that they do not sell as a set you will prob have to go straight to Primo or BDL for individual pieces, that's how I did it..

Cool Daddio..

Fisco I am glad to hear you are still hanging in there and keeping it in the wind!

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it. You are one kool kat with tons of knowledge!

I was looking at the 8mm cause I could not find any options in an 11mm belt, plus it is probably overkill for what I am running.

Thanks again, If you even get in the Salt Lake area, let me know.

Hey Wide

Divide the big number by the little number----

47 into 76 = 1.617

24 into 51 = 2.125

Next you multiply both--------- 1.617 x 2.125 = 3.436 final drive ratio..

I rounded off and got 3.42 last night,,,, oooops..!!

Actually 11mm is less heavy duty.. Fewer teeth per inch but the belt part itself is exactly the same thickness as the 8mm..

If I ever get up there I'll certainly let you know..
Salt Lake huh,, uh, they do sell adult beverages to us Non-Mormons don't they..?? Yeah Baby..!!

Frisco,

Thanks, They definitely sell adult beverages to us non-mormons, although they frown on me walking around with a Jack Daniels IV, but you can't please everyone.

Hang loose Daddio
