Default HD Rebuilt Tranny for Free

As stated in my previous post, my 06 Dyna Wide Glide tranny was making a grinding noise. The primary had been rebuilt/replaced in 4/07 under warranty. The bike is now 13 months out of warranty but HD corp rebuilt the primary for free. I wrote a letter to HD corp stating my case. There was some issue wether they would cover it, but they did with no problems. I repeat, 13 months out of warranty!!!!

They know there are some problems with this years new 6 speed tranny.

We'll see what happens to the tranny in the next 12 months.

So if anyone has a grinding noise in this tranny, write the letter and get it taken care of for free. Save approx $550.00.

I lost my tranny ('07 Electraglide) in July of '08. While it was still under warranty, my experience was less pleasant. 69 days after the initial failure and 2 rebuilds later, it seems to be running ok. I also wrote Harley a letter and had a nice conversation with them but at the end of the day, I still feel like the process is broken. In my mind, anytime a warranty bike issue takes longer than 2 weeks, someone should be contacting the owner of the bike and making arrangements to expedite the issue or provide some type of loaner. As you can imagine, 69 days in Michigan summer pretty much takes care of the riding season.

I've seen posts where people talk about running Amsoil 75w-110 in their transmissions. Anyone have experience with this or a reason?

Hey TL

It's been my experience that it is not the fluid used in a tranny that determines longevity-- it is quality of engineering, workmanship and parts..
I bet Pack is correct--- and HD has "issues" with alota their new stuff..

I had a tranny run for about 150,000 miles on whatever I put in it (diesel truck motor oil for thousands of those miles),, and it didn't really need the rebuild when it was finally done..
