Default Transmission fluid change method

Just brought home my new 2009 Road Glide. I noticed the owners manual says to check the transmission fluid when the bike is on the side stand. When i change the fluid does it have to be upright when replacing with new fluid to check the level or do i just drain and change the fluid on the side stand.

Yep on the side stand, (kick stand)
I always measure mine out to get the right amount.
The older bikes were upright so that is why it is important to have the manual, to be sure you are doing it right.

Thumbs up Just for clarity here...

Hi Motorman
Being able to check your trans fluid level while the bikes on it's side stand is a convenience..and the dip stick is marked for where the level should be in that position, But,in order to drain the fluid, you need it to be level or leaning in the direction that positions the drain hole at the lowest point possible. Yeah, and like HC said..things like this are why factory shop manuals for each bike are so valuable.
