Default ultra clutch loss

I just had a wierd experience. After about 20 miles of highway cruizin I took my exit and imagine my surprise when the clutch lever on the '06 ultra came right to the bars without disengaging. made for some real fun at the intersection!! Made some hard downshifts, was able to find neutral and get the bike stopped,Then the clutch action returned to normal? This occured twice today, once on the way to work and once on the way home. I know, after the first time why did I try riding it again. I did check the fluid level in the tranny and I checked the cable over for any binding and found nothin wrong. Anyhow the dealer is going to look at it tomorow. I just had the 5k service done with syn3 put in all cavities. Has anyone heard of this type of intermittent clutch failure? Could it be due toi the syn3 in the tranny? I'm at a loss..

Sounds like a real mystery. I have an 02 Ultra, 24,000 miles, no such problem with it. Keep us posted on what you find out.

The cause of the "intermittent " failure was found today. when the derby cover was removed to inspect the clutch assembly it was found that the 'jam' nut was not where you would expect it. It was later found after the entire primary cover was pulled. The technician that performed the recent 5k service apparently failed to double check the torque on it and it backed itself off resulting in a costly warranty repair since the front crankshaft sprocket and primary chain were damaged when the jam nut got flung around in there.

I will admit that I am not upset that this occured as mistakes happen everyday and when asked, the dealers' service manager and the tech were honest with me and admitted their mistake and they didn't try to make up some story about what they found, or worse tell me "We couldn't find anything wrong"

You know, no one is perfect. I've ruined my share of stuff, that's for sure. Good for you, phat01. Anyone can make a mistake,
and I bet they'll take good care of you in the future. If they're smart....

Phat01, thankyou for posting the results of the inspection!
You really had my curosity on that one! I never heard of a clutch completely going away and then coming right back......

I too have made many mistakes, call it a learning curve?
Lord knows I will make mistakes in the future too.
