Default Tranny noise for 07s

Sorry I don't get it! Some of you riders are complaining about 5th speed whine? What models? Is all or just a few? If you go to H-Ds web site and compare specks the gear ratio's on ALL the T-C 96s are the exact same! So what gives???

Some people believe that a Harley's tranny should be quiet.
The issue is not about the gear ratios.
5th gear has straight cut teeth which run a bit loud in all 6 speed Big Twin models.
Nobody is wrong in their personal desires.
It just seems the factory missed it a bit on this one as well.

I have an 07 Street Glide and I agree. 5th gear makes more noise than 4th or 6th, but it is not unbearable. I just turn up the tunes!

The reason I'm asking is I have an 06 dyna with the 6 speed, No noise the I can tell in any gear. But the ratios are different, What I'm asking is what model bike Dyna? Touring, or the softtails,. Besides the gear ratios are exactly the same on all models with the TC 96. So I'm wondering is it the 16inch back rims on the touring bikes,. If so the only other model with this rim is the fatboy, The rest are 17 inch. I'm just asking if the 16 inch rims could be part of the problem, Because the sportsters have new cut gears and nobody's saying anything about them!.

I think that the noise in fifth is more noticeable on the touring models, seems to reverberate off of the fairing. My FLHX makes enough that I can tell when I am in fifth, but it diminishes under load somewhat.

I can't hear any noise difference in any gear either(07 FXD),I've listened really hard.Shifting is smooth and precise.I'm not sure whats going. Are all the trannies manufactured at the same facility?

According to Baker Drivetrain the mainshaft is trying to walk through the case and push against the trap door also causing clutch lever movement at low rpm acceleration. They make a kit to correct this (F6F). The 6 speeds in question are 2006 Dyna's,2007 Softails,Fl's and Dyna's.They also replace 5th gear sets with heli-cul cut gears.I was debating on buying the HD gear set for my 2000 Roadking now I know I'm going with Baker.

Default Not just 5th. gear anymore

After 10,000 miles on my 07 Ultra Clatter, what once was the 5th. gear noise, we all are hearing about, is now present in all of my gears, no matter what gear I'm in the same noise is present. Kinda throws MOCO's design characteristics of the 5th. gear, as cause of noise, out the window, since all gears are doing it now. Sounds more like impending tranny failure, due to poor design characteristics to me.

Default tranny noise

I read the article it was good.I have an 07 classic and my noise is in the primary. At idle some times it sounds like a 350 chevy engine with a gear drive cam. The dealer told me it wasn't wearing the self ajusting shoe at all, I had the tech look at it, seemed alright he said. Anybody else had this problem?
