Default Clutch question

Hi, why is it that with my bike on and running I can pull the clutch lever in and put it in first gear and be able to roll it as long as I keep the lever pulled in. With the bike off however I can not. When the bike is off and I pull the clutch lever and put it in gear and keep the lever pulled it is still in gear and cannot be rolled. Why is this? Shouldnt the bike roll free anytime the clutch lever is pulled in, running or not?

Hi there
It sounds like it is not fully disengauging. With the motor running, it is slipping and allowing you to roll it.
you may be able to feel the bike wanting to go forward, when running and in gear with clutch pulled.....if it is, then it needs adjustment.

Hey Josh

A dime to a doughnut Unc is correct because Dragging clutches is probably one of the most asked about Clutch problem of ANY & ALL year sickles..

Get you a manual and adjust it correctly,, always remembering that the "manual way" is generally the correct way But you often find a wee more of this or a wee less of that is best for Your Own sickle..

Not knowing what year sickle you have this is still prob pretty close..

You want no LESS than 1/16" (I like 1/16") and no MORE than 1/8" play at your clutch handle when fully engaged..

Knock yerself out

Observe the "caution" that is included in the service manual when adjusting the clutch.
