Default `71 Tranny Cluster Gear Marking Unknown

I have a friend that's rebuilding a `71 FLH (or possibly an FX) tranny.]

It was ran without oil until freezing up. He managed to cut one of the cluster gears in two to get it disassembled. It had an AP stamped into it.

This cluster gear, in attached photo, has a 20 and 16 teeth on opposing ends.

The tooth count doesn't match up to an OEM requirement. This one is apparently an aftermarket cluster gear.

Look closely at the marking stamped into it.

Does anyone know who the manufacturer may be on this one?

We're both baffled.

Thanks for helping identify this manufacturer.

Hi Bud

Not real sure what you're asking..

The manufacturer or OEM use..

I cannot help with manufacturer.. I went and looked at several Andrews Products parts that I have looking for an AP but they simply say Andrews..
That was my only guess for Manu......

I went to my books to confirm my memory about the 20 x 16 count on your gear.. It was OEM & generally found in FL's & perhaps Flh's being that it is part of the 2.60 to 1 first gear ratio..
It very well might be a direct aftermarket replacement or a ratio modification..

The FX first gear OEM ratio was 2.44 to 1 at 20 x 17.. I put an FX 2.44 tranny in my 120",,,, very high first gear..

All I have for you..

Thanks for the info frisco-rigid.

What we're asking is, looking at the attached picture in my first post, who is the manufacturer of this cluster gear with that marking that's stamped into it?

The AP on the other cluster gear we assumed was for Adrews Products but, since you've cleared that up, we're puzzled as to who made it as well. Now we've got a double delima... LOL!

There is a possiblity that this cluster gear (pictured) may well be an aftermarket item. He wants to verify it before ordering a replacement and without knowing who made it, he's concerned that the pitch of the teeth will be off should he get the wrong one.

Thanks for clearing up that it is of a different ratio OEM tranny. That is what was throwing both of us.....couldn't find those tooth counts as being listed as an OEM gear.

Any manufacturer info on the gear marking is what we're actually looking for then he can take it from there.

Thanks again frisco-rigid for your help.

Be safe,
