I am also interested in this question. Has anyone on the message board done this swap before with a Baker DD6?

Well there is somebody else out there!I ordered the DD6 builders kit and the tools to install it.After doing tons of reshearch between the two and experimenting with different primary and secondary sprockets the fact that there would be basically no torque loss with the DD6 was the way to go.I will post my findings after the install.

Well its in.Baker provided a pretty decent kit.You will need to buy a few seals to complete the operation though. You will also need the manual as bakers instructions refer to it constantly. The trans is quiet and smooth.Tools for the job ran about 500.00,but its damn near impossible without them.I'm still waiting on the speedo box to correct mph seems to be off about 20%.Man it is sweet at 80 mph turning 3000 just twist it and you 're gone.

I am interested in installing a Baker 6-Speed.

At the moment, I am comparing the individual, primary, secondary, overall, etc. gear ratios between the DD6 & OD6 so I can play with the MPH/RPM to see what would be best for my riding style.

I keep thinking I am using the wrong gear information for the DD6 because the numbers aren't showing a big difference (100~150 rpm drop) from stock.

What is confusing me is that on the Baker site, the gear ratios are: 3.77, 2.56, 1.87, 1.44, 1.15, 1.00 and yet when I check out the description in the DS Fatbook: 3.24:1 1st gear/.86:1 6th gear.

Could you let me know what gear ratio numbers I should be using?

Default gettin the gearing just right

pancho - you know, ive been turning the rpm/gearing optimal cruising speed equation over in my wanker brain for some time now....it hurts...make it stop

typical innner dialogue - do you go stroker with low gears, 80" (i ride evo's) or with compensator/clutch hub/pulley changes (which is what i did), or do you spend big bucks & just slap in an expensive baker-like trinket - which allows you to still play with all the various gearing options that compensator/clutch hub/pulley allow.,..which are many and can be pretty dialed in if you do the math and know what you want as an endstate

my next investment will probably be a 113" or an oversquare 111" - stump pullers in either case - paired up with a 5sp and adjusted gearing i think i can have my 3200rpm/80mph on the highway and still have a ton of passing snap if i need it..hills and dales will pose no challenge to a setup like that and it will kick butt on backroads due to a ton of usable torque -

got 8k you can donate to the cause?

wanker - who is allowed to dream - right?

What is this speedo box? Who makes it and where do I get one? I had the dd6 installed on my 03 night train and the speedo/odo is making it difficult to stay below the speed limit and know when maint is due.

I installed the builders kit 0D6 in a 99 Roadking about 6 years ago. If I did it over again I'd do it over the DDR6 because my Roadking has the 3.37:1 gear ratio.
Even if I had to do it again and DID NOT have the 3.37, I'd have trouble justifying the extra money and extra parts required by the DDR6. I'm building a custom bagger and I have the DDR6 coming but I needed the whole transmission, sprockets, chain, etc.

Talking dd6 vs od6

Wanker I spent countless hours with many different senarios, this sprocket ,this drive gear back and forth I went and then the shear fact that with the dd6 gear set there was only going to be 1% torque loss.Ding ding ding we have a winner Johnny!!!!! 90 mph 3400 all day long.
