Default Re: We just did a Mystery Trike conversion

Looks like I signed up here at the right time. My club brothers and I are starting a Mystery Designs trike conversion next week for one of our bros whos been down for four years following a truck wreck. The wreck left him with his back broken in four places, one hip and one leg broke. There's no way he can hold the bike up now, so this is his only choice.
He's got a big inch '99 FLH Standard with gear drive cams that's been sitting there until we could raise the money to buy a kit. We bought the kit from a guy who never installed it [saved a good chunk of change] and then discovered that Mystery WON'T weld the mounting brackets to any swingarm before '02 because of its reported "weakness." We located the later model swing arm, sent it out and got it back last week along with spacers to use the late style bearings with the earlier [smaller diameter] shaft that runs through the trans housing. We've got the bike stripped down and waiting and should get started on it next week. We're just going to get it running and rolling right now until he gets used to it, and get the body kit later on this year.
I'll throw my two-cents worth in here now and then as the project goes along. Wish us luck.

I wish I had a picture but I did a conversion on the trike with a mystery kit as well. My uncle is paralyzed from the waist down but with the trike kit, and a couple of fishing pole holders for his walker... he's on his bike now.

Thats cool... now you are his Favorite Nephew...
Can you get him to ride it over so you can get a few pictures??? or do you have some of the build.... maybe start a new thread with it?
Just a thought.

Everytime I see him or the bike I just never get a pic. And this is coming from a picture guy. He mostly uses a walker. He gets on the bike from the walker. Throws the walker legs into fishing pole holders on the bag of the bike, bungees it to another bracket. It has a electric shifter and he can operate the rear brake himself by thrustin his hips. Same way he drove a stick shift truck/car. His lack of leg use never stops him from anything...

I will make it a point to get a picture next time I see him.

I am thinking of the mystery conversion. I have a 96 flh bagger. Have been told by the company that I need a new swingarm. They say the 96 is not strong enough so I guess that will be the way I go. How long was the install?

Mystery didn't tell me about the swing arm shaft. Where do I get the spacers?
