I think the durations are for time. You have to remember that the engine still turns 360° and the event is now down wind you might say.

So, what the event does is still suck in that 14.7 on the close. You now have that speed up in the rpm where there is the power upstairs and nothing at the bottom.

It is more like we can follow the pressure and kill it or lengthen it. For example, say we leave the exhaust from opening so we take advantage of that last diminishing return of pressure and now slam the exhaust valve open , we played out that pressure.

Or say we want grunt out of the corner. We just take a zipper and lower the grunt down the rpm range as if you were pulling zipper up or down on the pants pull.

So, you are more or less juggling the time the 360° opens and closes. You still have that same 14.7 ingest. You still have that same fire off but it is in degree ramp and that too is in a advance/retard range and that is to determine the time it takes to burn said fuel is look down at my watch and it runs in milliseconds.

Have I more or less, expressed the cam lobes and the open/close timing events to where we are not even concerned with epa. We want that emissions for heat and flow. I would never pull my cat out of the pipe knowing it helps speed the heat out of the pipe and keep 14.7 out so I am less restricted heat speed wise is emission lean is a good thing and they are old racing tricks still in play. But others remove the tune by removing the cat and fresh air systems.

Hey Tommy

If you have that much control over your Ignition you're sittin in tall grass baby..
Yes, if it were me, I would idle +- 900 r's at about say 7* and climb gently to 30 - 32*, your choice,,, at say 2200.. That's about what my 93" shovel is..

I time both the 120" & 127" at 28* cuz of the comp and both makers advise it.. I would have no hesitation with 32* max with your 96" motor..
Perhaps Wrightturn has a sugg..

Since you have such ease of adjustment just try that out and adjust +- to fine tune or experiment.. Have a ball Daddio..

You know,,, one thing that I always include in these discussions is that all timing should be final (or mostly final) before jetting/A/F is finished but I forgot this time till now..

Hey Tommy,

Like Frisco said 28 deg all in is safe. Did you cc the heads ? What head gasket did you use ? What low speed jet and needle are you using ? With the timing control that you have tweak the mixture and roll back to 10 deg. Continue adjusting until all detonation is gone and you are smooth off idle.

Darn! And I thought I was doing so well. Look, this is Buzz' place and we go back a long ways. I mean magazine wise, it was a freebie fill in the blank and sell it, no middleman was the Buzz with his hand in my pocket. I am paying forward what Buzz gave me back in that era. I was buying that magazine like candy until he sold it. I am glad he stayed in the bike scene and he stayed in the magazine business.

I can tell you stories about magazine editors and how cutthroat that business is, but I won't go there, [as they are no longer in business ~ Long ago].

If I am not communicating well... I would rather bow out than be thrown out. I will not destroy Buzz' home.

You regs have been making fine webtech without me and I built that bike without your help and we are even more or less. So I bid you guys/gals a hello/good-bye.

I kept my secrets with my old racing buddy and myself is I am so torn between shutting up about the tuning/hacking/flashing/jacking the AMA all up is to hush up, "Is if you ain't cheatin, you ain't win inn". Darn! Darn! Darn! Da ING Lush Language...!

Adios, Moo Chat Chose.

I'll only say this once because I don't dawdle on sentimentalities..
I certainly did not mean to make you feel Un-welcome because I recognized your desire to assist and, I think your intentions are honorable..
It's just a wee difficult to follow your unique style of writing..

That said----- if you still want to leave, it's your call..

Frisco, Wright,
advanced the timing a fair bit for starters, warmed it up and went for a road test, all is well. Might just give it a little more a little sooner, but, dam it runs well!
Honorable mention to 03 FXST for letting me jump into his thread.

Hey Tommy
You are advancing more than the timing. You are also advancing the thread and we are all learning from the discussion. That kind of thread jumping is what makes this place great.
