Why does HD push the SERT?

Just wondering, they flat out refused to sell me a PC III. I still don't know what I got for $400. I mean, what exactly did they give me besides the little black SERT box/ interface that is basically useless to me? I thought I would get some type of module that I could plug into my bike somehow and then, with a laptop, I would be able to make adjustments to my bike. All I got was an upload I guess?
BTW, I bought an '09 FXDB with V&H staggered shorties and an SE breather/intake.
Actually, you probly got the SEPST, the latest generation SERT. Your $400 only buys the box, you now have to shell out more cash for the cables and the software CD that allows you to plug the box into your bike and a computer and edit your EFI settings.
Good luck!

The SERT was made for Harley Davidson by The Turbo Shop. In 2008 Harley Davidson decided to go with a new vendor, and they changed the name, as well as all the hardware and software. It's really a new system.
The "latest generation SERT" would more closely describe the Master Tune from The Turbo Shop. They make a stand alone tuner for the Harley Davidson Dephi system that does a whole lot more than the SEPST.
Probably the MOST USEFUL new tool from the Master Tune is the ability to optimize the VE table using the Switching o2 sensors that are stock with the closed loop efi systems on later HD models.

Optimizing the tuning on your EFI without a DYNO? Priceless.
RJ - I've seen you're posts before - great info btw. I fully understand the difference but wasn't sure the Texan did so I was trying to keep it "Harley" by saying the SEPST is "their" latest gen tuner.
I learned a lot from your previous posts and always look forward to hearing more from you.

IMO you got cornered into using one shop and they got your cash, if it was a true SERT install.
You do not install the sert, it is merely an "interface" that allows access to the bikes computer to dyno, change maps ect.
They push it, as questioned because of greed.
At one point, early on in the fuel injected era it was, IMHO the best choice, had the most flexibility and ability and it was not a peripheral unit or "piggyback" system, however there are many, many options now.

I know that, I was going to put one on my bike, but once I realized that the dealer who "installs" it is the only that has your maps and if you change dealers then you have to pay more again, plus it's not as "user friendly" per se than some others. To each their own...
The way I see it it is something that has to be installed, again a matter of opinion.

as long as you have the sert you can have any dealer, any dyno shop or you yourself with a laptop can do whatever, however, whenever to your mapping just as with any peripheral unit.
People, people, you have to learn to do your homework before you jump in with both feet!!!! First if the dealer refused to sell you the PC-111 go elsewhere. I own a 97 SuperGlide [ thank god], but I did purchase an 08 Road King more for the wifes pleasure than mine which forced me to absorb some of the new technology and at least become somewhat knowledgeable. Believe me it still boggles the mind! My first experience with this new **** was with something as simple as installing an exhaust system and an air cleaner on my new ride [Rinehart true duals and a Big Sucker stage 2 air cleaner kit]. I had first read in AIM that you could install these components and the computer would re-configure itself [07's and up], based on the new flow requirements. Being the cynic that I am I did a little bit more research before I bought into it. Of course the dealer said that I couldn't do it, yeah right like I'm going to believe what they tell me. So as it goes I installed these components and walla just as stated it took about 15-20 Min for the computer to do its thing and I had no issues with it except for the fact the that the lean condition remained based on the new flow requirements. Performance and throttle response improved noticeably and put a grin on my face but I was looking to get rid of the lean condition [heat generation] and pick up a couple of more ponies and torque. Even though there are a couple of good units out there I chose to go with the SE Pro Tuner. Now here's the deal the tuner itself becomes married to your particular bike but you are not married to the dealer! Bring a flash drive with you when you go and have them download all the info onto the flash drive this way you can go to any independent or dealer of your choosing when you walk out the door that that uses the SE Tuner! This is your key. Without it they would have to start at ground zero again. Hope this helps. I'm still learning!
