Default Broken Tour Pack Mount

On my ride from Stamford, CT up to Lake Placid, NY (about 6 hours riding time) the bracket that holds the tour pack on my 2000 Ultra broke on both sides.

Good thing my riding partner, who was riding behind me on his Ultra, spotted it flapping around before it fell off.

We bungeed the tour pack in place and rode carefully to the hotel, which was only a couple of miles away. The next moring we rode over to the local hardware store and bought some metal stock and plenty of hose clamps to keep it secure until I got home a few days later.

Anyone else hear of these mounts snapping?

I didn't have the tour pack overly weighed down. Mine broke right where the mounting bolt attached the pack to the metal mounts.

The exact same thing happenned to me on my 1999 Ultra. Noticed it while at Laconia. My bike was parked next to another and I noticed something was different about mine. Just like yours it was broke on both sides. I had read somewhere this was a common problem. My solution was the same as yours. Some metal stock, hose clamps and a little duct tape got me all the way to Atlanta, with my wife on the back part way. Some guys at the hotel seemed quite amused by "engineering" involved in this fix. As you probably already know the new bracket has been redesigned and should not break.
