| | How much is 1K, 5K and 10K service I assume these service intervals are standard as far as what is done.
I am just curious about the approximate cost.
I suppose if the hourly rate is different you could pay more or less. |

| | I too was quoted $295. I plan on doing my own 2500 mile services in between the warrenty mandated 5k services. No way around dumping that $300 bucks each time, I NEED that warrenty! |

| | I paid 300 for my 1k and was quoted almost 400 for my 5k service. It seems like the higher the mileage you have the service performed the more it cost.

| | $195 at Cajun HD in Lafayette for 1K on a Dyna. I don't know what the others are as I've done them myself.

| | My 1k service was free with the bike. The service manual shows what should be checked at the recommended intervals. I didn't do the 5k at any dealership, I changed the fluids myself and checked everything off the list. The only oddball stuff to check is the belt deflection and stuff like lubricating your cables, the other stuff is just basic items I look or listen for. Save your money, you can do it yourself. By the way, I'm not sure if the warranty will be voided if you don't have them do the service. |

| | Moss-Magnuson Act says they CANNOT VOID your warranty because someone else did work.
Just keep receipts for supplies and note on them the mileage.
When to '06 change to the primary tensioner came out the dealers and indies around here kept their prices the same.
Even though they no longer had to adjust the primary chain.
They claimed to be still checking it. Which means, pull the whole cover.
Yeah, right.
Just do it yourself.
And if you have a Softail, get the right grease.
I can't find any details on it to find a substitute, so I just bought the dealers. But I had to insist that it existed. |

| | Most service departments have their prices posted for all those services. I use an independent shop - keep my receipts - saves me a lot of money and I can actually talk to the guy that does the work...............

| | just had my 1k done @ dealer. Which included all fluid changes and cable lubes and pri. gasket. $167.00. in the future i will do all fluid changes my self. i told the dealer this and he reminded me to do these @ required intervels and keep receipts. the service tech told me the harley lube to use for cables and how they do it. i think WD40 will work just as well |

| | | One thing nobody mentioned is to buy the factory service manual for your specific bike. They cost around $60 bucks at the Dealership, and will save you hundreds of dollars in a very short time. They tell you how to do everything, and give proper torque specs. You need good quality inch/pounds and foot/pounds torque wrenches (I use Craftsman) and basic hand tools. Make sure you have the T-27 torx bit for Derby cover bolts. Working on these is not hard, $tealers just try to scare you in to not doing it. | | | |
