Default Screaming Eagle Rumor

A very reliable source in the H-D industry told me HD was having all sorts of trouble with the SE 110. Will someone please lace me up on what they know. What kind of trouble? This info came from a well respected name who also has owned a cycle shop for 30 yrs. The info he gave me was via E-mail without any details. What sort of risk is involved in owning a new SE. Thanks in advance for words of advice.

There's been a lot of discusssion about this on this forum and others. Do a little digging and you'll get an eye full. Keep in mind, however, that this is the internet and just because you read someone's rant that doesn't mean it's the whole story. Personally, I think there have been some serious issues regarding oil leaks in the rear cylinders of some of the 110's. The causes and fixes are not so black and white.

Zero issues with a 110" here after 18 months. There's a big thread at a CVO site with owners reporting in who have had NO problems with their 110" CVO bikes. As noted, the web/email world tends to be a magnet for problem reporting, regardless of make, but it isn't necessarily indicative.

I thought I heard that the 110 problems were primarily the non-factory 110s... am I full of crap?

Normally? Absolutely! But I'm not sure about this time.

Hey, that's a good one. I don't believe it, but it's a good one.

Sorry, but which CVO site did you go to? The one I have been a member with is cvoharley.com. The ongoing, constant barage of numerous compliants are endless. There are few, like myself who have had no problems with the rear cylinder leaking. And too many with leaking rears that have had total swaps, in repair shops for warranty 3-5 9 different times.

I believe the issue is still current, yet there has been successful progress as of January, 2008. The last engines after the long mfg waiting period in the late fall of 2007 may have had the best ratio of positive results.

Forgive me if I read that wrong, but this CVO site is swarming with 110" problems, still non-stop, and most of us were hesitant to pursue the SE RoadKings for this very reason. I rolled the dice, got lucky for now and check for the leaks every day since January 18th, 2008

I've been hearing about too much heat making riding uncomfortable.

Yeah I think heat is the biggest issue the newer bikes are facing. The EPA has a strangle hold on the post '07 bikes. Making the engines run hotter helps them meet emission standards because of more complete burning of gases. It's easy enough to cool the engines down with oil coolers and FI mods to richen the fuel/air mixture up a bit. If I had an '07 or newer bike that'd be the direction I'd go just as soon as the warranty expired. It also doesn't help that the newer baggers are so dang heavy and covered in fairings and luggage. Water cooling could fix it all.
