Default new noise...

I have developed a new noise coming from my engine.2500 miles ago i replaced cam tensioners,bearings,o-rings,pushrods because my bike had nearly 47000 on it with original tensioners.tensioners werent bad just changed them because of a long ride coming up.now i have developed a new noise, went back in and checked everything, readjusted prods, werent loose, seems to be coming from primary side of the motor, pulled my primary, just to have a look, everything ok,started listening a lil closer, seems to be coming from the top end....kind of a hollow ting sound.bike still runs strong, took oil filter off,no metal, orange pieces,....thinkin maybe rocker shaft,wristpin......seems to be more from rear cylinder.just lookin for ideas..thanks alot.....

Some recommend replacing lifters around 30K miles. Also, a Baisley Spring as a replacement for the stock oil bypass spring, increases oil pressure and usually helps quiet down the valve train.

Hi Low

Noises can be a pain..

Few years ago a noise developed from what I thought was the Front-Intake rocker area.. I asked my buddy to listen.. He has forgotten 10 times more than I'll ever learn.. He thought the front intake also.. We both listened with stethescope etc..
Soo, It seemed like a good place to start..

It turned out to be the Rear-Intake rocker shaft and the rear-intake lifter wheel.. Now the cam was toast..
No way to see which condition occured first to start the damage..

Noises can be diff to track down..
Good luck..

Frisco said the secret word, stethoscope, trying to find a noise without one is real tough.
Get the one for cars, it has a metal rod that you put against the engine, then just check everywhere to find the loudest point.
This should be in everyones tool box.

Cool

Noises are a pain in the a$$. Last week a noise like rubbing a brick on a sidewalk started coming from my lower end,not all the time only at idol. Took it to the dealer, said he never heard that sound before. Said he thought it maybe a balanceing bearing, Also said they needed to call the factory for input. Bike is a 2006 Heritage Softail Classic,88B motor,3 years left on warranty,,7500 miles,,well taken care of,,any idea's???????

A piece of steel tubing or a screw driver works pretty good too.

Stupid question but did you let the tappets bleed down when you adjsted your pushrods if not tighten the pushrods until the piston in the tappets bottom out and wait at least 5 minutes and then do your adjustment.

couldn't take the noise anymore....brought it home ,let it cool down and started to tear into it.i listened with my stethoscope and noise seemed to be coming from the top end.tore it down didn't find anything obvious yet.thought it might be a wrist pin but they look fine......crank doesn't have much if any play in it.....i will get a better look at it tomorrow..running out of options,i would rather find it than to have to guess and poke....
