Thumbs down Red hot 2006 fatboy

hi guys this is my first post on this forum so hope somebody can help. bought a2006 fatboy platinum approx three weeks ago 6 weeks to go on the warrenty was told by the guy that it had new main bearings at about a thousand miles it only had fourteen hundred miles on it when i got it the story goes that there were a batch of bikes fitted with dodgy seals and this caused the problem so i thought must be sorted my dealer verified this but wont give me a print out of the job sheet saying it was harley warrenty work and there fore there property which as we all know sounds like a load of bull**** and makes you think they have somthing to hide now the problem is with the heat 5 to 10 miles and you cant put your hand on the oil tank and i reckon you would take the skin off if you touched the heat shields any ideas i also own a 2001 heritage and the fat boy is the 9th harley ive owned but never had one that you could fry an egg on the oil tank before it is totally stock EFI bike

The bike should not be getting that warm that quick unless it is very warm out. I think the heat is from running lean which is common on EFI bikes to meet the EPA requirements. I would check with the dealer and see if there is an updated software for the ECM. I know there are at least 3 versions for 07 and 08 bikes that are known to run hot. Are you getting any pinging under load when it gets hot?

Hey nightrain
maybe more so than a carbed bike so you change down more and go easy on the right hand but i have not heard of any o6 bikes that had heat problems this was end of 1450 run to use up the motors but i have noticed it has catalitic silencers but nothing else no sensors nothing
cheers

Hi Dave. I live out in the country on gravel roads so I can relate to the desire for gaiters. When I need a pair for one of my bikes I found a pair at a shop that sold dirt bikes. I'm sure one of those shops can fix you right up.
By the way, if you look through the various posts you will see a thread starter button, click on it and it will bring you to a new thread button.
Ride safe and GOD bless. Sincerely:Shovelmike
