Default $54 for a signal light lens,,,crazy

Hi all, new to the forum and new to a HD. Been biking my whole adult life (now 59) and figured if I don't get my HD now I'll never be able to afford it after retirement. So I bought a 2000 Dyna convertible and enjoying it big time. But the other day the garage door caught the wind and blew into my bike smashing the left rear signal light lens. So I called the local HD shop and without asking the price (big mistake here) had them order one. Got a call yesterday saying it was in and the cost is $54. I almost crapped my pants. $54 for a piece of plastic smaller than a hockey puck. I figured OK, it has Harley Davidson imprinted on it so it will probably cost from $12 to $20 but man I just can't justify spending $54. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I can get an aftermarket lens for a bit cheaper?

Default lens

Hey Bill,

Sounds like the dealer ordered the turn signal conversion kit. It comes with two red plastic lens and an electrical widget that allows your turn signals to work as turn signals and brake lights. I have it on my Dyna and it adds a lot of visibility when you hit the brakes.

You can order the lens from from J&P Cycles or any dealer for a few $s.

Hi Bill,
I replaced the left turn signal lense on my '02 Sporty last fall - cost under $5. Are you sure there isn't some miscommunication here? Sounds like they're offering the entire turn signal assembly maybe? A $54 lense is kind of unreasonable

During our phone call I asked her to open the box and check. I said she must of ordered the whole light assembly, nope just the lens. I just can't bring myself to pay that much. Thanks for the tip of where to get one. I'll check it out now. By the way I did have that set up that makes the rear signal lights into running/brake lights also on my Honda, they were great and I plan on getting them for the HD soon also.

I called JP cycles and they helped me right out. So I ordered two lens and a catalog. Then I called the Harley shop to cancel my order. Turns out the gal that placed the order sent for a "tail light" instead of the "signal light" lens. No wonder the big difference. Said she had the lens in stock, but I already ordered from JP. Thanks all for your help. But I do have one more question: when looking for items online sometimes I see the products are for "FXD" bikes and mine is a "FXDS". My question is are these the same or not? I know the "s" stands for "Sportster" front end. Maybe I only need to use this when ordering something that attaches to the forks?? Thanks for bearing with me on these questions, I did alot of smoking, drinking and keeping late hours in my younger years and now they're starting to affect me.

No, FX means it has the XL (Sportster) front end.
FL has the fat front end.
