I had a '87 Sportster that was lowered front and rear using Arlen Ness parts. It consisted of shorter front fork tubes, springs, and shortened shocks. It looked cool along with fat bob tank, drag bars, and little Ness quarter fairing but it really cut down on cornering clearance and suspension travel. I loved the look but hated dragging the pipes and pegs. With two up the suspension bottomed out easily too.
To me it'd be a shame to limit the cornering on a "handling" type bike like a FXDXT. Just going with shorter rear shocks might be kinda cool as a compromise. The FXDXT has too steep of a steering head angle to begin with according to a buddy that has one. He had to put an after market steering head dampener on his to calm down the front end twitch at high speed. Lowering the rear and leaving the front stock would increase the steering head angle a bit. |
