Strange behavior recently. My 2008RK engine light will come on after start for about 10 seconds then go out. Bike runs like a champ. No error codes. Any thoughts? My dealer is over 100 miles away so a quick trip is out of the question.

If you can't find a good answer here, most dealers are pretty good about giving you SOME info over the phone. Just call the service department and explain your situation. Ask to speak to the service manager if you have to.

It is the duty of nations, as well as of men, to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God, to confess their sins and transgressions, in humble sorrow, yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy and pardon; and to recognize the sublime truth announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history, that those nations only are blessed whose God is the LORD. ----Abraham Lincoln
isnt the engine light suppose to come on at startup and then go out? Mine always had in both bikes and cages. If it stays on you have a problem and then you plug it up to the reader. Correct??
J, that's what I was thinking. I almost went out and turned mine on and started it last night to see. I was going to look this morning, but you beat me to saying this. I think it is something that you don't notice at first. At least I didn't. It was a little too late last night to fire up the Rush mufflers, but I will do it this morning.
When my speedometer acted up it flashed the check engineer light at start up and then came back on after it went out. There was a trouble code.
I'm pretty sure it comes on when I start the engine and stays on briefly and then goes out.

That happened on my bike - after the dealer did a 1k service. I found a plug wire loose at the coil. Pushed it in all the way hasn't happened since. Not saying that's your problem, but sometime simple things...

I was told by someone on another forum that ts is an indication of a "stored code". He reassurred me that it was benign and that the engine light will reset after a number of starts.

The IM (instrument module) is capable of displaying DTC's (diagnostic trouble codes).
Speedometer Self Diagnostics: The speedometer is capable of displaying and clearing speedometer, tachometer, TSM/TSSM and ICM/ECM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC).
1- Turn Ignition switch to OFF & Run/Stop switch is to Run.
2- Push odometer reset button in & hold.
3- Turn ignition switch to Ignition and release odometer reset button. Background lighting sould illuminate, speedometer needle should sweep its full range and indicator lamps (battery, security, low fuel, check engine and cruise) should illuminate. The word “diag” should then appear.
4 - Push the odometer reset button once and you will see the selection menu "PSSPt" with the first P flashing.
5 - Each letter represents an area of the diagnostics module. The module that is flashing is the one you are going to check. To move from one letter (module) to the next, you push the odometer reset button one time. (from P to S to SP to t and back to P, etc.)
P = ECM/ICM (Electronic Control Module [EFI] / Ignition Control Module [Carbureted])
S = TSM/TSSM (Turn Signal/ Turn Signal Security Module)
SP = speedometer
T = tachometer
6 - To get the DTC within an area of diagnostics, push and hold the odometer reset button in for 5 seconds and release. If there are any DTC’s the code will be displayed or the word “none” will appear if there are no DTC’s. Push the odometer reset button again to view additional codes if they exist.
7 - Record the codes.
8 - If DTC’s are not to be cleared, Press and release the odometer reset button. Part number of module will be displayed. NOTE: To determine if a code is current or historic, clear the displayed code by pushing in and holding the odometer reset button ( longer than 5 seconds) until 'clear' comes up. Release the odometer reset button. Turn OFF the ignition switch. Run your bike and shut it down then recheck the DTC’s again by repeating steps 1 to 9. If the code is current it will reappear.
9 – Press and release the odometer reset button to continue to the next module.
10 – Turn Ignition switch to OFF.
On models not equipped with a tachometer "norsp" will appear when the tachometer identifier is selected.
"norsp" will also appear if the run/off switch is in the off position when doing this procedure.

KeeRyst! I'm so old school (points, plugs and carb needles) that this tuff just blows me out of the water. I DO REALLY appreciate you walking me through this. At times like this, oh do I wish for the days of my old shovel :-/.
