Question 2008 FLSTF Handle bar and tach question.

I have a new 2008 Fatboy and the risers and bar seem to move. I have already brought it back once for it but it started doing again almost right away. If I turn the bar hard left or right I can twist the bar out of alignment and it does not take much pressure. Trying to find new risers with that 1 piece top clamp. Another Fatboy owner of an older bike suggested that would help stop the movement. Also trying to locate a tach that will mount to the riser clamp or 1 1/4" bar. Would like to use a HD black face that matches the speedo but it doesn't seem like they make it that way for my Fatboy. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

As far as the bars moving, that ain't right. The bike's still under warranty, make the dealer fix it to your satisfaction!! As far as your tach issue, maybe try J&P, or Dennis Kirk, see if they have something that will work for you. Just remember, you'll have to get the tach, a housing, and a bracket. If you can do the installation yourself, you can save yourself some cash. Good luck

Yo,frisco...obviously not!!!
So, you wanna be the guy to suggest "duct-tape" next or can I do it !?!

OK,just kinda kidding there...but,frisco's suggestion (previous thread) does seem to be the answer...and,I just can't see where a one piece cap would make any difference. Because (one piece cap or two) once the handle bar's clamped down tight - the risers can't pivot/shift on that end of them.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the help. Now it is cold here I think I will get in there and try to tighten the risers myself. frisco-rigid I forgot I asked the question back on 12-1. Went to you answer, thanks again. Has anyone used one of those micro tacks by Speedway Instruments yet?

My 2008 FatBoy had loose bars also, the dealer tightened up and no problems since. You are right about the tach availability fo Fat Boys, I opted for the HD combo tach and speedo setup, real slick. Works greatand looks great.

Hey Len

Yes, just a wee tightening could be all it needs..

Now, something else just came to mind..

If a wee tightening doesn't do it and if that center spacer (between the bushings) is not a tad too long preventing proper tightening,,,,, a real wild shot-in-the-dark could be that the riser bolts might be a smidgen too long and bottoming out before total tightening is achieved..

If your risers mount with bolts/studs protruding Down through the top clamp and tighten with Nuts,, then bottoming out would not be the prob..

Definately keep us informed, I'm curious why your sickle has this prob..

I had the same problem with my 07 Fatboy. Going down the road one day and noticed the bars were twisted. The answer is to replace the stock rubber bushings with the polyurethane ones. Harley sells them for around $35 bucks. They are not hard to change out. You might be able to get the $tealer to cover the labor under warranty if you pay for the bushings. I did it myself as it was much less of a hassle than dropping off the bike etc. Plus, I know the poly's are really in there. My bars have not moved since.
