Default Air Intake Plug

Hi from Canterbury England.
I have a 2008 Fatboy, standard apart from screaming eagle slipons (Only slightly noisier than stock but baffles are welded )
I bought the Vance and Hines plugs for the exhaust valve actuator which I have fitted no problem.
In the kit was a 2 pin cap plug for the air intake. I haven't fitted this, is there any benefit to fitting as I have a standard filter. Also does the bike have to be running to open the air intake flap before it's unplugged.
Many thanks

Welcome. Maybe someone familiar with the international models can help you out. I'm just not familiar with the plugs and all you are talking about. I do have an unused plug behing my Screamin' Eagle air intake. Is this where your plug is?

Hi and thanks for the welcome. The part I mention is in the below link. Basically it stops the engine management light showing a fault if you disconnect things!
The exhaust part I understand as you are given more noise, The European spec has a valve which shuts one pipe when the bike is stationary to suppress noise, It diverts the exhaust gas through one pipe. If you just disconnected without fitting the plug, a fault code appears.
The intake also has an active intake. I just wonder if it's worth disconnecting

Welcome to the forum. I'm not familiar with the international models either, hopefully someone who is will jump in and shed some light on this matter. It sure adds a lot to the complexity of things when the government gets involved with the design of these machines.

I'm guessing a European FI model tuner will have to answer what happens when disconnecting the active air intake on your bike. If it opens and closes with different needs of air-fuel ratios, it may be more complex than to just "disconnect". I would suggest a call to the V&H people to ask some questions.
If they have the answers then post them here so we all can learn.

O.K. I found this so far.

Valves in the exhaust and air intake open and close in response to Engine Control Module programming and a throttle position sensor. The valves close to reduce air intake and exhaust noise at certain rpm and throttle position settings. This minimises noise when riding at low speeds such as in an urban environment. Out on the open road the valves open to optimise performance and sound quality - exhaust gases flow freely through both mufflers and engine performance is further enhanced because of the improved gas flow and full utilisation of the revised airbox volume and geometry.

And the result? The 2007 Fat Boy for example, has 15 per cent more peak power and 19 per cent more peak torque and an even sweeter, more distinctive engine note when it’s time to ride. Power and torque increases vary by model but all models receive a healthy performance boost.

As you would expect from Harley-Davidson, the new technology is discreetly designed and integrated so that the classic looks of the motorcycle and profile of the V-Twin engine remains unspoiled.
