Question strippedcamsupportbolts

Im working on changing to gear drive cams and have a problem with 2 stipped cam support bolts. Just wondering if anyone has had a problem with that or knows how to repair it. The 2 bolts are are for the alignment dowls on one and two in torque pattern. thanks.

This is a common problem, especially when a torque wrench is not used.I purposely torque all the cam support bolts to no more than 100 inch lbs (spec is 90-110) because of these two bolts,I will go 90 if someone else has had it apart before me.The stripped holes can be Heli-coiled if you're careful.Good luck.

Sorry for that half reply. Not to good at typeing. Used a torque wrench ,bolts stripped at 79 inch pounds also had locktite on all bolts. Next problem is getting out the dowls. Helicoils are to big to go through the center. Thanks for info. New to site, but rode all my life.Always worked on my own stuff.Havent had very good luck with repair people in the past

Welcome to the club, that is exactly why most of us are here.... to just do it our self, ask questions when ya need to, and fergit all the troubles that come with allowing someone else to ''work'' on our machines. besides, what a sence of satisfaction when the job is done and you get to go ride.... many days sometimes weeks sooner than if you had left it at the dealer...

Welcome to the forum...

I'll give away another secret to help you out.Thread a tap into the dowels (I believe a 5/16 18 tap is what I use) you don't need to cut more than three threads, then you can use a bolt to pull them out without damage.
