Oooh Gee

When are guys gonna learn to include ALL the info that they have when they First post a question..?? Look how much time was wasted..

Now I agree with Kens sugg about the possibility of spark knock or Detonation at 45+ in 4th, 5th..

Should Never be below 50 in 5th and sometimes even in 4th..

I had a nosie that I could not find on my Shovel. It sounded like it was coming from the front end or the top end of the motor. It was only at certain speeds and it would not do it when sitting in the garage. I finally figured out that is was the chain from my wallet slapping the left side of the bike. The high price of fashion. It could be something very simple and small

Do you have any primary oil in the primary? Don't laugh it's been known to happen. You mentioned the shop was in it 500 miles ago.

Finally got around to removing the derby cover and checking the oil...there was none. I went to the Haley dealer to get primary Syn3 and while there I talked to service about where could the primary oil go. There are no drips on my garage. Crankcase and transmission oil levels have not changed. There is no sign of oil blowing out anywhere. So maybe it was not filled the last time it was serviced at HD. So, I filled it (32oz), put on a new gasket and we are going to ride about 400 mi. in the next two days....then check it. Where could it be going???

That's your most likely scenario, tech just forgot to fill it. I hope everything proves to be OK.

Last time I heard a "flapping" noise on my bike was at high speed. I found out it was my "man breasts" flapping in the wind.

I'm leaning toward the tech forgetting to fill it,however, there is a VERY REMOTE chance your primary oil is transferring past your crank seal into your engine. This can easily be verified by checking your engine oil,if it's overfull, then it may be transferring. Also, check the backside of your inner primary for leaks,it's possible to lose fluid & have it distributed by the belt & wind action.(still think it was never filled)

I would think that slap would not cushion on day one without oil in it.

I would pull an inspection bolt, or the drain bolt which can enter the primary cavity. I would then leak down the seals with a brush and warm soapy water. Take the brush and as the low air pressure is filling, there is an escape at some area.

That is a lot of oil to lose. And again, I would have to think that without oil the first time out on the road test, you should hear that chain slap without oil in it. You have two loads and the bottom unloads and smacks the slipper pad IF the chain is properly adjusted.

Like Shovel mentioned...the fact that the noise was there before as well as after the primary was serviced....hmmmmm !
