Default Bottoming out Street Glide

My buddy has an 2006 Street Glide that starting riding like crap late last year. He took it to his mechanic and they recommended he changed the failed factory air shocks. They chose to put Progressive 412 series on instead of an air shock system.

Since this work has been done he still bottoms out and has even had to replace the wiring harness inside the fender. I starting looking into this for him and found that Progressive did not possibly make a 412 series for the FLHX last year. I believe I was also able to confirm this by simply looking at a J&P Cycles catalog as well.

Can you still have bottoming out issues even if the length of the 412's match the stock air shocks length? Any feedback would be helpful. The mechanic is washing his hands of the whole thing now.

Default Re: Bottoming out Street Glide

Hey Rick

A few months back I was killing time wandering thru the dealers showroom and the sales guy saw me eyeing an '09 Street Glide. He said they are 1" lower in the rear than the other baggers. I'm betting they got that 1" with shorter shocks. It's probably going to be hard to get the cushy ride without bottoming out with the reduced travel in the rear shocks. Maybe your bud should have gone with stiffer shocks. Stiffer springs and stiffer valving. Progressive's HD shocks are just that. Might ride more like a brick than a ballerina though.
