My 2007 SuperGlide did something really strange today. I was VERY low on gas, and headed to the station when it back-fired/stalled for a second (never quit running just quit for a second). I continued on about another 1/2 mile to the gas station and filled up the tank. I then turned the key on, waited for the fuel system to set, then hit the start button, and ...........BIG CLICK, and all my lights go out, odometer, etc., and I've got nothing! Tried it several times.switched key back and forth.......nothing......I called my son to come get me after about 5 minutes, and thought I'd try it one more time..............BAM! it starts right up!.............runs fine for about 2 hours, and just now when I was leaving my house, about a block away, it backfires/misses/dies for a second, so I turn around and come straight home. What's wrong? Bike is stock.
Well, the cables didn't seem too loose, but I removed them both, and retightened them, and everything seems fine now. Guess (hope) that might have been the problem.
It still may be wiring related, or maybe double check other ground leads on the bike. Did you check both ends of both battery cables? the negative is the easiest, since it goes right to the frame. If that aint it, then I lost that dollar.

It's possible you had some crap in the tank and it's clogging the filter, or another thing is you might have hurt the fuel pump. Injected bikes have a pump and I've heard that running them dry could damage the pump.
My guess, and it is purely speculation, would be a bad ground somewhere. When the bike backfired, it may have been enough to loosen a ground. I don't believe that it would fuel related in as much that the bike should still crank, and you'd still have lights, odometer, clock, etc.
Again ... it's a guess. Hard to diagnose electrical problems from a distance.

Nice guys may finish last, but at least they finish
My dollar would also be on the batt. cables. Seems to be a common problem on the newer bikes. Aren't there any lock washers on those bolts or are the techs doing the PDI's a little limp wristed?
