Default Save my Butt

Hi guys!

Everyone has been a great help in the past so I thought I would come back once again.

I ride a 2003 HD FXSTB (Night Train), after I purchased the bike I put a Saddlemen gel seat on the bike for comfort on long rides. However I just went a 2 long rides, one 625 miles and one 425 miles, and my seat didn't perform as well as I would have liked. I know some of this problem, could very well be me and the way I sit when I ride, but I'm hoping I can get help in finding a new seat, at $250 or more a pop and can't return them after using I need to get a seat that is going to work well for me and be worth the money.
I begin to get sore between 45 minutes and an hour into the ride. The sore point is my tail bone, it feels like there is no padding in that area.
Seat recommendations from anyone that has experienced the same problem is greatly appreciated.

Thanks again guys.

Hey WrightNT.

Have you tried one of those Sheep skin covered Gel Pads from Motorcycle Gel Seat Pads, Covers, Seatcovers & Tie-Downs

They run around 90 bucks. I picked one up a few years back after I hurt myself. It did help. I have even used it in my cage.

Keeps the butt warm on those colder days.

I did not use the straps that came attached to it. I just set it on my seat and hopped on. It will raise you about an inch so those with legs that barely reach the ground may have trouble. It did not shift on me at all. Just a thought instead of getting a whole new seat. Use it on the long runs and leave it home or in yer saddle bags on the short.

check this site out. Official A Sweet Seat Website

i have a good friend that has lower back problems and he had his seat done here. he could not ride more than 300 miles a day on his road king. he said he now does 600 plus miles no problem.

i had my mustang seat for my Vrod road rod conversion done and it made a big difference. my wife use to get those lower back jabs when ever we hit the raised ribs or frost swells. if it happened early in the ride she was uncomfortable the rest of the trip. Now we don't even feel the bumps. my ass still gets that feeling after you sit to long but a little repositioning and good to keep going. the big benefit is we don't get those bone jarring hits to the lower back.

the guy use to make special seats for handicapped people and is now pretty much into motorcycles using a special memory foam.

He will tailor the seat to your needs. the nice benefit is the memory foam when it gets warmed from your body heat conforms to your butt and can also lower you about an inch. Give him a call nice guy and likes to talk. He might be your answer.

Do a search for tail bone pain, Coccydynia. This is a real common problem, instead of not enough padding you probably have to much padding, and to much pressure there.
I broke mine years ago riding a mechanical bull trying to impress a real cute blond.
I take all my seat covers off, and grind down the padding there, that or build the padding up everywhere else. This does the trick.
Most upholsters can take the cover off and rework the padding.
If you talk to an upholster be sure to mention where your problem is.

Wright... I also used to have an 03' night train. I bought the "night train" seat that you could upgrade to from Harley.
The actual seat name is "night train".
I rode that bike on many trips consisting of 500 mile days and it was really comfotable.
I now have an 07' street bob and put a mustang seat on it and again, very comfortable for the long haul.
Look for a "night train" seat on ebay, I think you will love it, or try a mustang seat.
I've used mustang seats on rigid frame bikes and have always had great results.
Hope this helps!!!

Put a Mustange Solo with the passanger addon seat on my 2003 Deuce. This seat is great, I have done 500 mile days on it an not once does my butt get sore. My bum knee starts hurting way before any butt pain at all. Did a 2500 mile six day trip with this seat no complaints at all. Cannot say enough about this seat.
