Default 2009 Dyna Glide Front End on a 2001 Dyna

I own a 2001 Dyna Wide Glide. I have an opportunity to buy a complete 2009 Dyna Glide front end including the tire & rim. Would a 2009 Dyna Glide front end fit on a 2001 Dyna Wide Glide? Is the steering stem the same? If so, are there any other issues.

If the newer front end does bolt up there could be other issues. The rake in the steering head on a 2009 Dyna is 29 degrees. On a 2001 Dyna Wide Glide the rake in the steering head is 32 degrees. Will this cause the bike to sit funny?

Thanks for any help you can provide. Travis

Hi Trav

I have swapped/changed alota front-ends but Not the specific swap you're inquiring about,,,, But just for the heck of it I checked out the Neck bearing Race and cup installer tool I have and it is for all big twin necks 1936 to 2009.. Also,, the bearings are identical..
So, I would guess that if the same tool & bearings are the same for "all" necks then the swap should work..

Being that the 2009 is 29*,, the fork tube length could be a couple inches shorter than your fork tubes..
In my books some Dyna/fxr types from 2000 to 2009 are 22.25" and some are 24.25"..
If both sets of forks are the same length you'll sit the same but if the 09 forks are 2" shorter then of course that'll lower your front-end some..
In that case you should be able to simply swap the tubes too..

Have a ball

Thanks for the help. The bearings being identical is a good sign this swap may work.

I am sure the forks from the 2009 will be shorter than the fork tubes on my 01 WG. They actually look shorter. If I'm not mistaken, the Wide Glides had a few degrees of rake built into their triple trees. If you look closely at a WG you can actually see it. So the WG actually may have a slightly higher overall rake than the 32* that were advertised . Also, if you look at an 01 Low Rider next to a 01 WG, which are both supposed to be at 32*, you can see the 01 WG has a little more rake. Anyways, this means the 01 WG forks are pretty long, but I haven't measured them yet. Another factor is the switch from a 21 inch to a 19 inch tire/rim which will lower the front some.

I also have to worry about the steering lock. It appears to be in different location starting with the new frame Dynas (which came out in 06 IIRC).

I'll probably end up installing the new front end to see how it fits and then examine how the bike sits.
